Just for you Di. Your very own Football thread that will run until May 2012 when the final is played in Germany.

The groups have been drawn and here they are:

Group A: Bayern Munich, Villarreal, MAN CITY, Napoli

Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor

Group C: MAN UTD, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati

Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb

Group E: CHELSEA, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen,Genk

Group F: ARSENAL, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund

Group G: FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit, Apoel FC

Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen

1st group matches 13-14 September. Put it in ya diary Di, you won't wanna miss it.

My prediction for group stages:-

Group A: Villarreal, MAN CITY

Group B: Inter Milan, Lille

Group C: MAN UTD, Benfica

Group D: Real Madrid, Ajax

Group E: CHELSEA, Valencia

Group F: ARSENAL, Borussia Dortmund

Group G: FC Porto, Zenit,

Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan

Most of the groups are a foregone conclusion but I've gone for a couple of changes, can't see Arsenal going through considering the turmoil at the club at the moment, which could spell the end of Wenger's reign there.

A: Bayern Munich, Man City

I like the Champions League to see which under dog shines.

Wish they wouldn't seed teams and just put everyone in the draw like the FA cup but hey ho TV rules

If they didn't seed the teams you'd see a final so unbalanced it wouldn't be worth watching unless you happen to follow one of the two teams playing in it. Who'd want to see Barcelona thump someone like Viktoria Plzen 7-0 in a Champion's League Final. There's no sport in that. The way it is structured now allows lesser teams who have done well domestically to get some experience in Europe, add the added finances being in the CL brings to each club will enable the lesser teams to build upon the previous year and make a Champion's League appearance a regular occurence.

I get your point and understand the logic, but it still means those lesser teams will only ever get to the first group stage and not beyond.

As a supporter of a league 2 team I would love them to get to an FA Cup final just once even if they got trounced in the end. They would have knocked out a few good teams on their way there.
