a compression belt or tube that goes round the area might help if it's only mild/moderate. mostly helps if you go numb in the area though i've found.

maybe get the doctor anyway then you've got some tablets in for when the pain strikes? or at least they can look into what's wrong.

hope someone else has advice also.

My sister is a physio and when I had a bad car accident and did my back in she told me to do some exercises that really helped, she also did some bone breaking shit that really hurt at the time but did the trick. You either need to see a physio or there are quite a few videos on exercises to do on yotube/nhs website etc. for back pain. Could have trapped a nerve or slipped a disc if it's a sharp shooting pain and you did it bending awkwardly picking shopping, quite common.

Essex.

I had a quick word with a physio yesterday.

They recomend M.I.C.E

Movement. Gentle use and gentle stretching.

Ice. Ice pack to reduce swelling.

Compression. Bandage but not too tightly.

Elevate. As it says...

When my back was bad the osteopath got me to put a pack of frozen peas in a damp tea towel on my back for 20 minutes every couple of hours.

Also use some anti-inflammatory medication to help ease swelling.

Hth...

Ask your surgery if they can recommend a chiropracter or osteopath, they may well be able to sort you in one session.

There are so many different ways a back could cause pain its always best to get a proper assessment from a physio for an exercise plan tailored to you which takes into account best current evidence. The internet is a lottery you could stumble upon an exercise plan or treatment suggestion which is exactly what you need or something that will just make you worse while you are symptomatic. Some general low level pilates or other low intensity core exercises may help your rehab in a preventative sense further down the line when pain isn't an issue.

I'd be concerned if my cerebral cortex was bulging, that's your brain! Cervical spine maybe?

Central

I find a Jacuzzi when have back pain, to give some gentle relief to the area that may have tightened. I'd look for a local physio appointment if affordable and available too.

I slipped a disc that was hitting on my sciatic nerve. . That was SO painful. I found a tens machine really helped as well as pain killers. An osteopath wouldn't touch me until I'd had an MRI to find out the problem and I did it shutting my gate while carrying shopping, I must've twisted wrong. I guess it depends what you've done and how badly. Hope it eases soon though. Back pain is miserable and made me grumpy

i daren't use a tens machine, tried that a couple of months ago and it spread the pain all the way down my arm into my hand.

i'm still bad today, just gonna OD on painkillers as usual coz that's all that helps.

Essex.

I know this thread is a few days old but thought I would add this.

According to a recent report by a sports college, 250ml of beetroot juice speeds muscle recovery.

I aids repair, reduces recovery time and soreness after exercise...
