Other than that I rarely look at profiles, primarily when an OPs profile is quoted on a thread. Then I feel the need for clarification. Some of the unsolicited messages warrant further profile investigation, comedy gold

Because a lot of the time I don't just look at profiles I like the look of but also those I'm drawn to in a morbidly fascinated kind of way ... for example, I sometimes want to see if their profile is as twattish as they come across on the forums

... and therefore I don't want to give them the wrong idea. There are also a few profiles I semi regularly peruse for sheer comedy value. Even if I'm interested I like to keep my powder dry so to speak and remain in control of when and/or if they get to share that info
