There was an item on today's Radio 2 news that doctors are trialling a new method of blood pressure monitoring due to the fact very high false readings are being recorded and experts believe this may due to the patient feeling nervous at the time bp is taken

The new test is in the form of a monitor that the patient wears all day so an average reading can be gained from them going about their normal routine.

the so called "white coat" reaction where the very fact that the patient has to see the doctor increases the BP... Mind when I see my GP it tends to drop the BP, he is so boring...

Sounds like an excellent surgery you have chosen with a concerned enough gp who took further tests before dishing out the pill willy nilly.

Our surgery already does the 24hr monitoring.

I take daily medication to keep my BP "normal" and I've used the monitor myself about 2yrs ago now.

My last couple of readings have been pretty good, and along with my recent weight loss might hopefully mean that I can come off the pills.

My next test isn't until December, so got another few months to consolidate my current status
