cotswolds/herefordshire

My tip - stay somewhere that has a roof or you'll probably get very wet!

Braithwaite is nice though

It will be fine, if you expect and prepare for it to rain then you won't be dissapointed when it does, but pleased when it doesn't! lol

Family trip, personal break away or business?

I think you've picked the best time to go! Went 5 years in a row in Oct half term, the autumn colours are stunningly beautiful. Derwent Water for me is the prettiest, and Keswick is a lovely town. Enjoy, I'm quite jealous!

Autumn is when the Lake District is at its best, the scenery changes daily as the leaves change colour.Theres so much to explore, sometimes best not to plan this or that, just go out be amazed.

It's achingly beautiful any time. No such thing as a best time to go but Autumn in the lakes if anything is better than summer.

It really doesn't matter where you go it's a place that burns deeply into your soul and no matter where you are in the world will always stay with you..

Yeah Hertfordshire to home usually takes 4 hours, last Sunday was 8.

When you know where you are going I'll check local traffic for you.

I can't PM as I 'm too old but ask me anything.

There's a long 20 mile section of roadworks south of Manchester that's 50mph. And depending on timing you'll likely hit traffic at either top of M5, Stoke or Preston. Sorry to be negative

Windermere/Bowness can resemble Blackpool at times, but the Northern lakes Derwent/Ullswater etc, is less touristy, more scenic.

We let the Southerners think it always rains up here to keep our roads as clear as possible. But don't tell anyone I said that.........

Depending on where you stay, south or north lakes, the M6 is the route and go from there. The whole area is pretty accessible really, west coast a bit of a schlep.

Staying in Keswick

Up to Penrith and back down into Keswick is the best route, quickest anyway

Iv pm you"

From Keswick you can take a lovely drive down to Grasmere/Ambleside/Windermere etc. Should be glorious autumn colours for you.

Or go West past Bassenthwaite to Cockermouth and the coast.

So many options. Message me

"Hello me again..

It’s only a few weeks until I’m heading to this beautiful part of the country.

I’m travelling from the south, any tips for where I should stop first?

On your journey up, or when you get here lol?

When I get there, others above have said I’ll pass other places to see

It really is a big county, and there is something for everyone here (apart from a swingers club), how long are you here for?

Only a couple of days

Have you booked accom? There's a nice drive through lakes to Grasmere then Keswick.

I’m looking at accommodation this week, iv provisionally booked 1 place.

Could you give me directions/info please?

Depending on where you stay, south or north lakes, the M6 is the route and go from there. The whole area is pretty accessible really, west coast a bit of a schlep.
