I agree to an extent. But just because some people blame things on them just because they're not getting their own way doesn't mean it doesn't exist

A clique is something someone is purposely excluded from. Although there are people who clearly get on with each other and may post regularly in each other's threads etc, everyone can in fact comment in the forums so I would say there are no cliques. There are alliances and friendship groups but I wouldn't let it bother me

That's a nonsense comment as it is an open forum. You've explained the very definition of freedom of speech. I'm sure there are groups who would close it off if they could.

I dont make threads with the intent on making drama. I just ask questions, listen to people's opinions and give mine. If you don't like my opinion or the opinion of others then maybe the forums aren't for you

I couldn't give a stuff about a clique but I did notice that it does take a while for people to talk to you when you first enter the Forums. There is definitely a Wolf Pack... is that the same as a Clique?

I'm a loner anyway so just go about my own business and try to have fun. I've never felt the need to be a sheep. If you like me and want to chat, great, if you don't, no sweat

I think the clique are people who back each other up, overtly flirt, in-joke etc. That seems to annoy people.

Wolf pack seems to happen at random when some newbie says the wrong thing at the wrong time (full moon, Sarurday nights) and is turned on mercilessly by anybody who can type.

Your attitude will keep you safe and happy

"I think some folk are just a little bit up their own arses and think they are something special.

I couldn't give two shits myself and people on the other side of a screen really don't bother me too much."

This... for sure.

From observation, groups of attention seekers, posting on threads created by other attention seekers. Not necessarily a clique per se, more of a forming of like minded individuals looking for affirmation.

I don't like cliques, that social phenomenon that gives people a sense of superior inclusion is not for me. I'm more likely to seek out individuals than groups. People are much more interesting than sheeple.

I will add it is a matriarchal one just as another poster has mentioned. Combine that with clueless male followers and bingo! I was going to post in the previous thread because there were a few unfair comments made at some people, but it closed.

For those people who are put off by this please don't take it personally otherwise it will disrupt your good times.

All this talk of cliques really does remind me of the school playground. It's pathetic and bloody childish.

Post what you want within the rules on here. Sometimes your post will be ignored and other times you'll get lots of replies.

In a recent thread someone stated they rejoined the site, or changed their user name, and when they posted in the forum they got lynched (or some other word) so they went back to their previous username and were treated differently, as people knew them.

Maybe it's not a clique (as some are so against the word) but when they get friendly with one another they're less likely to argue with each other or give shit to them based on the comments/ threads they post.

I guess we all have different gifts, some people make very difficult things look easy, if you find it difficult to catch young hot guys as a lady and you notice that another lady who you believe you are more beautiful than is catching them with ease then maybe you need to be in her clique so you can enjoy her talent, thats all it is.

Guys were nicer to me when they noticed the ladies just love me

So there has been a fair few people say there isn't a clique and probably an equal number say there is one

What I did notice was that the people saying there wasn't a clique are forum regulars, and the people saying there was one was people who I don't recognise in the forums. This isn't an absolute, there were a obviously a few exceptions to the rule. If anyone would like to prove that wrong then please feel free, I'm happy to hear both sides of the arguement.

I have noticed though, and I was speaking to another forumite about this and they agreed, if a forum regular started a thread and said "I'm finding it hard getting someone to meet me" they would be given advice, sympathy and probably even offers. But if someone who isn't a forum regular said the EXACT same thing, they would get slated but they would stay within the forum rules so they don't get banned (this isn't a go at the mods, I'm well aware they don't set the rules and standards).

What I did find interesting is the private messages I got from people saying there was a clique but they didn't want to say anything in the thread because they didn't want to ruin their chances at meeting people and I found it interesting because why would people act like that if this "clique" didn't exist?

as I said, I'm always happy to hear other people's opinion on any matter. I'm not the kind of person that will ask for an opinion and then get butt hurt if it's not an opinion I like. I know I've been blocked by a few people in the forums simply because I speak my mind and that's not going to change, and I wouldn't expect anyone to sugar coat their feelings because they don't want to hurt mine

Forums are always going to be full of people who know another. People who have posted for a long time and who are established will get more replies to threads. I don't see a clique, but I do see groups of friends. One group of friends, you yourself are in, OP.

Personally, if someone was asking for advice, I'd give it. Forum regular or not.

I can probably count on one hand the amount of actual friends I have on the forums, yourself included. There is a few more I can have a laugh and a joke with and have a bit of banter with. But that's about it. I can honestly say I'd just be as honest with my friends as I would a stranger

I said in the part one thread that I agree to this to an extent. I think a fair few people have got turned down, insulted or rejected and have blamed a clique just because they can

"

I'm not too sure I agree with this fully. I think occasionally, yes, a newcomer will find it more difficult. What I have found is that the tone of the OP and where it's posted can affect the responses given. I've seen numerous times the consistency of posters when given advice whether to a more established poster or a newbie. I can quite easily list more than twenty posters who do so.

I also find that the profile itself affects the responses given to those sorts of threads - the newbies who have a poorly written, sparse profile tend to be in for a bit of a rough ride. Not saying I agree with it but saying it's as simple as newbie vs regular is reductive with a healthy dosage of confirmation bias thrown in.

"

What I did find interesting is the private messages I got from people saying there was a clique but they didn't want to say anything in the thread because they didn't want to ruin their chances at meeting people and I found it interesting because why would people act like that if this "clique" didn't exist?

"

A perception based on a couple of incidents of confirmation bias can be a strong one indeed. What I find most interesting is those who have been on the longest and post and interact with all types of threads and posters type there is no clique. I've only been on for five years but in that time I've seen the friendship groups change frequently (that doesn't really lend itself to the definition of a clique), the accusations of a clique by those who perceive themselves to be different or outsiders often pop up, these types of threads frequently started.

I think the definition of clique by some based on their posts would suggest that everyone should post and interact with everyone. It's not a utopian society, it's a forum. Clique is often used as an insult when butthurt or feeling left out. People will respond to those who they are naturally more in sync with and will ignore shoddily crafted OPs, rightly or wrongly. Everyone has experienced a post not being responded to.

(Early stream of consciousness when reading a summation of sorts ftw!).

"

Quite true, however when people "gravitate towards each other" this is the forming of a clique. The trouble is that people associate the word clique with negativity because it is used as an insult and usually by those feeling left out and bitter.

Cliques exist everywhere, usually totally innocent and benign, from a group of blokes that meet in the pub to talk football, women that go on girls nights out together, pensioners that go to bingo together etc. All are exclusive to some extent and neither group would particularly want the other joining in unless they fitted into the group in some way. It`s not a bad thing and to answer the op`s question. - Yes, there are lots of cliques here, just as there is in pubs, playgrounds, workplaces and every other forum on the internet. It is people with some sort of connection or shared interest and to deny it is misguided. A clique is a group of people that have "cliqued"(clicked) together.

The problem begins when people begin to see cliques as either some sort of conspiracy against them or a badge of honour where joining makes them superior. For the moaners it is an easy excuse or sympathy plea, but on the opposite side there are people with delusions of grandeur and also those so desperate to be one of the cool kids that they take any opportunity to belittle and criticize those that don't fit in. One beast pokes the other, in equal measures.

I have seen examples of both the "moaners" and the "cool kids"/wannabes here (although chat can be far worse)and it is accentuated due to the nature of this site.

People are very (understandably) cautious of "strangers" here due to fakes, idiots, etc, and every little thing you do (esp in the forum) is scrutinized with a fine tooth comb and you are judged upon it. Not always fairly but people can only go off what they are given by how you portray yourself so que sera sera I guess. What isn`t right is when these cliques form their own little gang and try to dominate the forum, becoming judge and jury over all that dare enter. Thankfully most people here are pleasant and polite (though for some it is obviously a pretense) however there is no smoke without fire and people are obviously wary of it if they have been messaging the op because they are hesitant to speak their mind here. It is also obvious in the replys in this forum and how contrived they are. Everyone is too worried about the wolves and/or keeping up appearances to actually be themselves. As a result the forum is just the same old posters, topics and egos over and over leading to a more insular and cliquish environment. For example, didn't someone get hung, drawn and quartered for starting a thread that someone else usually starts just the other day?

Anyway, what it boils down to is the moaners just need to get over it really. Find the people that do want to talk to you and that you can clique with and stop stressing about the ones you don`t. The cliques do exist but that is not the problem. The problem is why does it matter so much to you that cant join? If you are desperate for a meet this isn`t the place for you, same if you have rejection issues or insecurities.

Everyone else just needs to stop denying that there are cliques and most importantly be yourself and play nice. If you can`t be nice, at least try not to be a cunt.

I don't know if there's a clique as such and don't really care. . .

There's bound to be people who get on better when there's a big group of people like on fab, so they will always comment and joke with each other in certain threads.same as in real life, Only difference is fab is public so anyone can join in the conversations but doesn't mean everyone will feel involved in said conversation because those who know each other are bound to have private jokes etc

I don't think I've explained that very well but I know what I mean (I've only just woken up )

Anyway I post wherever I want so if there is a clique I'm oblivious to it and happy in my pink fluffy fab world

Well every time I come back to the forums it seems to be a whole new group of folks doing the vast majority of the posting and inside jokes so if there is a clique it has a bloody high turnover... either that or they have done that old fashioned pastime of "making friends" outside of the forums *shudder

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

"So yes, I've seen a few threads trying to out them.

"

Its all getting a bit 'conspiracy theory' now.

Like timewasters, there seems to be a huge number of meanings as to what or who the clique actually is. On the thread a couple of weeks ago it seemed to be defined as people who chatted together, whether or not they exclude others. before it was always people who came to the rescue of their mates on forum posts, whether or not they agreed with them. The thread yesterday described feeling jealousy/envy where someone had used their position of responsibility to invite others to an event while leaving less desirable people waiting.

I've ben on Fab since 2010, and there have been groups of people who get together and enjoy banter on the forums, but that happens in real life too. Are we expected to behave any differently here? Do we have to ask permission to enjoy some people's company more than others? And, seeing as I have some experience in this: if you're not proactive on the forums, why should others be blamed for not including you?

Preston

I've only joined Fab this year and started using the forum mid Feb. I had a look around I noticed some posted more frequently and interacted with others. This was synonymous with friendships, I concluded these were due to regular interaction or they had met. Now this is a forum therefore interaction is how it survives. I like interaction and if that includes humour then I'm in heaven. I found the forum incredibly amusing so decided I'd start posting. As there have been many references to the school playground I'll stay with that. I was at a new school and didn't know anyone. I was also invisible something that is understandably deemed suspicious. I wanted to be interactive and clearly to do that you have to post. If you post rarely then interaction is going to be limited because you don't know personalities and they don't know yours. So I could respond to something in all innocence and this could be misinterpreted. So I decided I'd make an effort and post regularly for a while and hopefully that would be enough for me to get to know ppl and be able to interact. That's what I did, ppl were suspicious rightly so but I was never set upon by a "clique" or anyone. I don't even recall being ignored. I'm not exactly confrontational I'm more about kissing to the ground although I like a bit of mischief. As with any social environment if someone comes along and starts stirring up a hornets nest they are going to get stung. Again that isn't a clique it's human nature, new things/ppl are treated with suspicion we don't like change. I started to make friends which is what I do wherever I am because I like ppl. I sent pms relating to posts on the forum to males and females, but not to try and meet, just because they'd made me smile or I wanted to offer support. My mostly happy and mushy posts don't suit everyone and my LPP is annoying I'm sure. I've also been blocked by some and that is their right as is mine. I've made several mistakes on the forum and I tend to hold my hand up and apologise. I've seen how grievances and misunderstandings can make the forum toxic at times. I love the forum and all the personalities but I don't interact with everyone. That's not because I'm in a clique but because I don't read every post on every thread or I may have nothing to say. That's why I created the lounge chat so I and others could say things without it being topic related. It was also an opportunity to interact with different folk and get to know them. I will interact with anyone on the forum or via pm as long as they respect what I have said on my profile. It is friendships that keep the forum alive without them there wouldn't be interaction. Friendships aren't for everyone and some may find it more difficult than others but that's the same with everything in life. You tend to get out what you put in , I interact and have fun and I intend continuing to doing so. Long live the friendships and the forum

I would also like to point out that the OP has already admitted that he has been invited to the Birmingham social, and the Manchester social was actually started so MrBee could attend a social.

There's a sense of entitlement on this site which is getting hard to stomach.

My first post on the forums was to ask for profile advice.

I knew I'd get some nasty responses because I'd seen how other people had been treated when asking the same thing.

It was mainly women who were nasty but not once did I ever think there was a clique.

People have to get to know someone when they first start posting on the forums, I just kept posting on different threads, I was ignored at times and had replies at times too.

I've noticed some people think there's a clique if they aren't fawned over every time they post.

They need to get over themselves.

Oh, and I was named in the Clique, it was done by a sad twat of a man who just named people who posted regularly on the forums

I'm fine with that. I only want intelligent people in my clique, I'll get bored otherwise.

I've been on the forum just about 4 years. The strong friendship groups have ebbed and flowed on here. Those I wanted to interact with I was able to, others I couldn't be bothered. Groups that have developed strong bonds socially are often more difficult to communicate with because of shared, jokes, experiences and above all some people really liking each other. The Fab forum can be intimidating at times. I think the software doesn't help as posts can't be liked easily without posting and quoting is cumbersome too, so naturally people can feel ignored.

Sometimes conversations between regulars move so fast it can seem impenetrable too.

Regulars and friendship groups are easy to name but whether they could be considered exclusive cliques is debatable in my mind.

But everyone is in a clique, depending on your point of view.

The OP is posting about a certain group of people he had a problem with, but there are many, many such groups on here, and it seems those who feel left out have to grind an ax or two when they feel snubbed.

I can't take complaints of being left out seriously when they are from people who are indulged on here regularly.

I find it hard to believe in any "organised" clique.

But I am guilty of reading between the lines of posters who are regulars on here, I have the knowledge of their posting style. An insight into their humour etc. Which will allow me to see more in their post than a new user can see.

I don't read every thread, if it's not on my screen when I open the forum I rarely scroll down. And if I recognise the last poster or thread starter, then I will possibly open and read that thread, even if it is a title that I would normally skip over.

So my personal view is that perceptions of a clique are highly exaggerated. And like any group, you need to join in with others conversations and get slightly known, not walk in and demand that everyone who doesnt greet you enthusiastically are an impenetrable clique deliberatly keeping you out.
