"We was just talking about these at work yesterday and then they bloody appeared. Don't know any cures except boiling water. But if they flying just stay inside." This is inside!! They keep getting in through a pipe in our kitchen, and also just noticed through a bit of the skirting board. The house next door was empty for months a couple of years back and we've been having the problem every summer since then, am getting sick of it now.

"They were bad in The Valley last year. Can you block the pipe. Have you tried Jeyes cleaning fluid? " No we haven't but will give anything a go, plus I love the smell of that, must be better than the sprays we've been using. Thanks for the tip x

"There's a bit of ladybird invasion going around my area atm..... tiny little ones... 1000's of them all over the ground and in the trees etc... I had six on one of my windows,,,,,... lovely creatures " I remember in the 1970's seeing a huge ladybird invasion they were literally crunching underfoot and were everywhere. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that since. Closest was a grasshopper swarm in Italy in 2004. Really freaky as they hammered into car windscreen.

"Try stuffing the gaps round the pipe with cotton wool soaked in Peppermint Oil. Ants hate peppermint! Also baking power along where they walk. It gets on their feet and when they clean it off they ingest it and explode. Seriously! Also, use Nippon Ant power along the exterior locations where they get in. For interiors, if they still make it, Deathlac spray. Leaves a long lasting residue that poisons the little bastards!" Thanks for everyone who's given us some great tips, these ones here we've not heard of and will definitely be giving them a go. I love these forums where else could I have found out all of this information
