No smilies can completely change how your post comes across, this one without a smily could look like a moan but obviously isn't, reply with no smilies and lets see how each others replies look ?

think smilies help when it comes to understand the tone of a message when a voice cant be heard or body language shown

in the night garden

I like to use them all the time, it can take the edge of what otherwise would be a solemn PM.

for example...

'Hi mate, sorry to hear about your dog being put down. '

I never used to use them at all but now I use that green big smiley thing for everything I say. I can't be arsed choosing from the list and I'm not that interested in them. If its in response to something very sad I won't use a smiley.

I hate the rolling eyes one tho, I think its very rude to try and take the piss out of someone viewpoint

I won't know the difference.

Those smileys are someone elses emotions.

At least three of them are nasty little fuckers used only by nasty big fuckers.

Noo don't change the way you use them bouncy, I deliberately used two extra smiley smilies after. I wasn't being 100% serious. I think if someone puts ffs then it can be a deemed a little offensive, depends the context of the post I suppose. The majority of people use it as you do in

There was a time when we had no smilies ans resorted to drawing our own to try and make some sense of what was posted

It was horrendous in here with people taking everything the wrong way and out of context,we did'nt even have a quote post option so it was arguments galore with people assuming something had been posted for them when it had'nt

ooooh the excitement in here when we did finally get smilies and then the quote button

Of course people still do take things out of context with them

I often think some people just put a smiley there to try and have a go at someone but avoid a ban.

I'm glad we have them but I don't utilise all of them, just the smiley face and there is no grand thought process or reason behind it, I just click on it.

My favourite is the fight by punctuation, the exclamation mark is the meanest motherfucker of the punctuation kingdom. The full stop just doesn't cut it, question mark can be a bit of a fighter, but the exclamation mark - god when someone disagrees with me and puts it after their point I'm nervous - fuck when they put a whole line of them then its saying 'hey you, git, you wanna piece of me'!!!!!

I never really thought the smilies had so many interpretations and I don't really choose them spefically for my emotions. I usually use the smiley face or the big toothy smiley face regardless of what I say.

I didn't realise that the big toothy smiley could be interpreted in a 'Jack Nicholson coming through the door with an axe in the Shining' kind of way. I always choose it cos I like the white teeth
