Purple fingers

Shakespeare's famous lease,

Is drawing to an end.

But try not to despair,

Too much my friend.

Where the summer's gone,

I just can't understand.

The combines have been out,

Working hard upon the land.

The trees will soon take on,

Their bright sunset shroud

A final act of defiance,

Standing mighty and proud.

The winds will whip up,

And rain will prevail.

Storms will batter our brollies,

Bringing the cold and the hail.

But fear not good folk,

There's still Septmber here.

An Indian summer would do much,

To restore our cheer.

And i'll be making the most of it,

As the failng heat lingers.

I'll be out picking blackberries,

And getting purple fingers.

"Blackberry picking means that Christmas is just around the corner "

Now there's a cheerful thought...not.
