Moving on from the should we accept North Korea as a nuclear power thread. In light of the latest nuclear test if none of the soft methods (not that sanctions adding to the starvation of North Koreans is soft) who would support starting a war to prevent North Korea developing a intercontinental nuclear arsenal?

Why would you start a war with a country with a batshit crazy ruler with gigantic nuclear bombs?

The next step for North Korea is probably when they say... "Lift your sanctions or we'll nuke you"

The good news is though, they've reached the point that they won't need to do any more testing now.

You're right there! While north Korea have been debating where to keep their nuclear bombs, we've been arguing wether to keep trident or not. Think we're abit behind

Maybe it's time to use that top secret weapon (reverse-engineered from that crashed alien spaceship) that makes all nukes useless!!!

Obvisoly all nukes are big. But at the moment his arsenal is estimated less than 30. All pretty weak in nuke terms. Many of them not in a state that could be delivered or at least delivered far. Not sure if all of them would work. In the next few years they could have far more powerful weapons, a lot more of them and the means to hit many parts of the globe. So does the buck stop here or do accept an increasing nuclear capable North Korea and hope for the best?

I didn't know those folk boys were headed to North Korea. That's a courageous step for them but I'm sure their music will go down well

I'd hope someone would measure up the conventional forces...potentially 100,000s of troops, and 1000's of artillery pieces. Read an article that with current US weapon stocks the US could only maintain a bombing campaign in a war scenario for about 30days using conventional bombs against those numbers. South Korea would be all but destroyed.

Ummmm who would I trust more with nuclear weapons....a North Korean dictator or a daft as a bat populist US president who single handedly has the authority to issue the command to press the button...?

Years ago.. Yhrough the mists of time there was the starwars project. 1980s? To dhoot dowwn intercontinental missiles.. Might be time to brush the cobwebs off.

Seriously though the USA have made NK the country it is. I reckon its time to get nk and other countries round the negotiation table.

Nk doesn't want a nuclear war, but a way to defend itself from usa foreign policy.
