The last road bike has gone !

Well after thinking long and hard about it I have sold my last road bike off, losing friends and seeing the consequences of accidents and fatalities got me thinking about the effect it could have on my family.

So after 33 years of riding road bikes I'm now retired, I still have an off road bike and the Scooter I'm restoring but I'm finished with the big ones

Enjoy the memories, that's what I'm doing now.

I'm building a cafe racer but don't think I'll be putting it on the road to ride myself.

To be honest, I haven't touched it for months, so you could say I've retired too

Thanks, I did enjoy them, I raced and stunted them for many years but there comes a time when it's over, I'm my own worst enemy on them as well and though my family have not pressured me to get rid of them I have to look at myself and consider their feelings for a change.

Great years with some great memories and some very sad ones, all part of my life though and a chapter now closed.

I know exactly how you feel, I hung up my leathers last year after nearly 30 years when I noticed I was the only one of my friends still riding. I was fortunate enough to be the only one to not get seriously injured.

Well done mate.

Yeah, well done for many years of avoiding those bloody car drivers ha ha ha...

I hung up my leathers after an accident that left me with two steel plates and 20 screws in my wrist! Unlike some of my now deceased mates, I took it as a warning and decided that I loved life way more than riding the bike!

Our son passed his motorcycle test last year and is a salesman for BMW bikes. He gets a company bike and as such they are all very well maintained and he is a good rider, but it is the "others" that worry us. Now I know part of what my dear old mum felt (and said to me!) when I got my first bike! But I have to trust him and he knows how we feel, but it is his life

So well done to all who have survived that gauntlet of bike riding over the years and have retired, but to the rest, good luck for the future..

A shame that due to either work commitments, weather and the operation I've had on my leg we never got to join you on that promised bike ride....But I understand your reasons for hanging up the leathers.

All the best...

Its a sad time for you. I had to give up horse riding as I seemed to be taking longer to recover from falls. I still use my quad but I've had a couple of spills from that and it does bring it home how less bouncy your bod is....

at least you've got memories that plenty wouldn't understand. Am thinking along the same lines myself as i am in hospital next week getting my collar bone screwed back into place from the last spill. It's right, you don't bounce so well as you get older.

Remembrance

Remembrance is a golden chain

Death tries to break,

but all in vain.

To have, to love, and then to part

Is the greatest sorrow of one's heart.

The years may wipe out many things

But some they wipe out never.

Like memories of those happy times

When we were all together.

xxxxxx

west midlands

biker angel be my guide

as i climb upon my ride

let your halo light my way

and keep me safe from harm today

let your wings provide me wind and air

and send it coursing through my hair

find me a peaceful sunny place

and let it shine upon my face

keep the clouds and rain at bay

and keep me dry throughout the day

watch over my brothers who ride with me

keep them safe and close to thee

keep my wheels upon the ground

so i,ll return here safe and sound

but should disaster be my fate

guide me through to heavens gate

if i must join my fallen brethren

please show me the way to biker heaven

(NEVER RIDE FASTER THEN YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL CAN FLY)!!!!!!!

bikes are in my blood and i have quite a few and not planning on hangin up me moo cow yet. I realise the day will come when i have to tho. I've had the big stuff and the middle weights and now down to a gullarm. Dont need owt faster. Its not bike friendly any more , busy roads etc. We all lose mates in the bike world and at the end of september when the last lot of hoops is down to the wood and theres nowt left on ya sliders, you park it up, its a good feeling to know you've made it through another year.
