I wasn't a big fan but I did like The Ruts and The Jam. I remember when "Going Underground" went straight to #1 and they played it live on TotP.

I got to know Big John Duncan out of The Exploited a little. It was so funny when he came out. Not the kind of bloke you'd want to make gay slurs to, as one local wag discovered in a local music shop, when BJ threatened to "Come over there and shag you up the arse."

Never loved a band more than I did THB era manics.

I totally copped their early 90's look around that time too. White jeans, fake fur, feather boa, eyeliner and glitter all over the bleedin' shop... Went down a storm in Cov did that look

Fave punk song... Shot By Both Sides by Magazine. Good soundtrack for a spit roasting.

Seems a bit trendier to rate the The Clash over the pistols these days but for me pistols are the ultimate band of the punk era.

Yep, MC5 were another awesome Detroit pre-punk act bit more revolutionary fervour in their lyrics compared to the stooges nihilism, better musicians too.

Reminds me, British band Hawkwind, featuring a pre-motorhead lemmy, definitely influenced punk (johnny rotten was a huge fan) despite being seen as a bunch of hippies. Their 1973 single 'Urban Guerilla' which opened with the line 'Im an urban guerilla/ I make bombs in my cellar' was banned by radio 1 as the IRA had just started a bombing campaign prior to it's release. 3 1/2 minutes of pure punk fury though...

Also the spin-offs from Sub-Humans, Culture Shock & Citizen Fish.

Do skrewdriver count as punk? They once supported the sex pistols before that whole nazi thing.... if so I'm having 'power from profit' and 'hail the new dawn' because this thread is full of old punks, and it will make them angry.

Too many to list all; but a couple of tunes that stay with me are;

Stay Free & Whiteman in Hammersmith

no need to mention the name of the group as we all should know.

I was lucky to be around to see all punk bands and enjoy the concerts, seen most bands in the great 70's & 80's era

There and to the left a bit

The Clash, The Ruts, The Sex Pistols, Green Day, The Strangl(e)rs, The Undertones, The Buzzcocks, Siouxsie & The Banshees and many many more.

Finished reading John Lydon's auto-biog on hols, which is a great (if a little wordy) read

As for favourite song, far too many to name!!

Favourite band/song changes all the time but dead kennedys- fresh fruit for rotting vegetables is consistantly my favourite punk album.

Iggy pop has to be the greatest front person ever, was very surreal seeing him play with the stooges at butlins
