I have to say, this is the best season I can remember as a Salford fan.

I was due to have my first game (of the 15 man, kick and clap variety) of the season tomorrow, but it was a friendly, and they have cancelled, I had a new gumshield and everything. Oh well.

It's been great hasn't it?! Challenge Cup semi appearance was the icing on the cake but unfortunately the season seems to be going down the pan and we've just imploded over the last couple of months.

Btw, I think we're on the wrong thread. This appears to be chat about who can kick a ball into the stands the most and get excited about 8 fat guys cuddling every 30 seconds!

I don't mind a bit of union but prefer league, even if the way it is refereed these days is frustrating to say the least.

I hope you have more sense than supporting your local team looking at your location!

If you do then you're lucky Catalans have disintegrated faster than us.... They're probably the only other team, bar Swinton, we could actually beat at the minute!

You're right.. it's so much better!

League needs to expand globally and internationally there is no strength in depth. However, club Rugby Union is just dire and I honestly couldn't pay to watch it.

Off to watch my old amateur rugby leage side this afternoon and the suns out. Can't beat that!

As for the league Union divide, am I the only person who enjoys watching both?

However while, IMO, League is a better spectacle hands down, we could learn so much from the way Union is run.

Better refereeing

Better administration

Better advertising and sponsorship (media RU bias has a massive role in this tho)

Lions tours are a superb concept and RL needs to bring back the touring GB side for Ashes test

And whilst I'll tune in for the 6 Nations, Lions, All Blacks & 7's matches I find the Aviva

Prem games a snorefest.

i normally don't get into rugby club season till european club rugby starts......

although i am much more a fan of top 14 and pro 14 than i am the english premiership....

interested to really see how the south african teams will merge into pro 14, to see whether any major players come to those clubs... or whether they will treat it as a "b" division to the super 15...

Yeah.... Get your own thread where you can talk about adult touch rugby where you don't have to fight for the ball cos teacher likes to make it fair and gives possession to the other team after 5 tackles

Haha, I'll try not to derail the thread too much. We like what we like and I guess our geographical location, upbringing, social class and schooling has a big impact on which Rugby path we follow. It's good fun having Welsh ancestry as I get to have some great banter with my uncle who is die hard Union and waaay too easily wound up by the "flat cap wearing, whippet breeding" Northern nephew!

I play union (although Southampton apparenly have a league team and I'm thinking of trying it again), have played league and I'm just not sure I'm fit enough to play league again, plus the kind of contact in league seems to put the fear of god into union players, although I don't know why, I prefer it myself, good man to man tackles without some fat lad sitting on your head for a minute afterwards....

I didn't realise this thread hadn't filled up.. nice to see it back.. yeah those South African sides aren't doing much at the moment in the Pro 14, have they lost a lot of players since they were disassociated with the Super's?

Meanwhile in RL I was really hoping Wakefield finish in the top four, Salford have a chance again. Wigan v Hull was a cracking game, it was never a send-off in my eyes, well done Hull KR and Leigh look set for a million pound match!

Business as usual for our newly adopted local'ish wasps team, think we'll take some stopping this season in all competitions.

Improved performance from Worcester but I still fancy them for the drop spot.

I finally found it! The top team from each conference automatically goes through to the semi final and will have home advantage. The teams placed 2nd and 3rd from each conference play off for the other semi final spot, the team placed 2nd will have home advantage. So you'll want your team to stay in the top 3, any predictions?

was watching the first round of the NRL playoffs and the standard of aussie rugby league is so much better than we have....

and i could watch state of origin games all day.... brilliant and brutal!

i need a proper NRL team to support... any ideas?

i'll be back with union when europe starts and the autumn international....

Well obviously I'm going to say Brisbane broncos just because I played for the school boys team. But it really depends on yourself.

i didn't want to follow one of the fashionable teams like souths, roosters (although i liked it when they were easts) broncos ect... manly and canberra were the best when i started watching.....

how about canterbury or cronulla, or paramatta,.... I want a plucky underdog rather than a show pony..... lol

True paramatta have final made to the play offs since god knows when. Cronulla won the prem last year so they're out the race. St George Illawarra, west Sydney tigers or could go right underdog gold coast

I think Munster will be fine. The top 4 teams from each conference pick themselves really, so you've only gotta stay ahead of 1 of the 4. I'm gonna say Munster, Glasgow, Ospreys from conference a, and Leinster, Scarlets and Edinburgh from conference b, with Munster and Leinster going through as conference leaders

Still, I suppose they have done better this season than in any season in my living memory, mustn't grumble. It's just so frustrating when one minute they are on form and playing expansive, quick Rugby and scoring some amazing tries and then they just show up another day and are shit.

Ah well, I still derive no small ammount of pleasure from wearing my Salford shirt to Rugby (Union) training.
