So my eldest turns 18 this weekend, yes its been 18 years in the planning. Yet today suddenly I really want to run away and hide. I don't feel adult enough myself to have an adult child

Not sure why i am posting this hear, feels bad saying it anywhere else my boy may see.

I feel your pain.

My eldest turned 18 last March.

But hey, do you know what? It makes no difference, they are still your baby. They don't change a bit.

His journey into adulthood will be far from traditional thanks to

f¥$#ing sh1te learning disabilities, ADHD and an anxiety disorder.

He will likely always be dependent upon me for support so I'm a bit taken aback by how I feel. The human brain is complex isn't it!

My youngest was 21 in June and that was a weird day. Like your son mine is also going to need support due to similar conditions but it makes you ponder their future and yours. X

Those feelings are perfectly normal and for many they don't go away.

I'm 42 and in my parents eyes I'm still a child

Don't worry, he'll still act like a child after his birthday. I'm 45 this year and still haven't grown up...

Mentally men never progress beyond 11 whilst girls who were sweet and delightful at 18 are sour old cows at 30.
