near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Apparently, them here doing the same landing formation manouvre that I saw them do barely a fortnight ago and at the same airport, Bournemouth Hurn. The plane crashed close to a large area of housing but some witnesses suggested the pilot may have sacrificed his life to ensure the plane crashed in open fields.

My condolences to the pilot`s family and the rest of the team members.

Petts Wood

He was a Harrier pilot before he joined the Red Arrows and served in Afghanistan, flying many operational missions.

One of Britains finest....

Rest in Peace

Aberdeen

Just heard on the news that they may cancel all air shows as they are not safe. I think this is just Health and safety gone mad. These guys (and girls) are the best that there is and i think that they should be allowed to show just how good pilots they are.

God bless the guy who passed away today and I hope they carry on for a long time to come.

my heart goes out to his family, may he rest in peace ...I lost a member of my family in a sea harrier 15 years ago ...but pilots know the risks and they live with the risk every day ....

The Reds have been pulled from all displays until they find out what happened. Not heard of all air shows being cancelled though.

The pilot could have ejected as soon as he knew something was wrong and studying the video footage he certainly had enough time, but as said above, he stayed with the plane to steer it from local housing.

Brave man. R.I.P.

The Red Arrows are the best- what a great pity that this has happened.

Had it been the yanks I could have understood and not been suprised by it, but the Arrows ?????? must have been a mechanical failure and definately not pilot error ...

"Well said x"

+1

though it may offer scant comfort to his nearest and dearest at such a terrible time, such a selfless act demands the deepest respect.

RIP.

A truly brave man by the sounds of things xx

It is way too early to say the Red Arrows will never display again. They don't even know why the Hawk crashed yet.

There was a two-lorry crash on the M1 on Friday morning that cost one of the drivers his life... are all lorries now banned from using the M1 because "it's too risky"???
