I don't know the story, but it take a wild guess that the reason would be traditionally or culturally accepted within a deeply religious sect? Forgive me OP, I know very little about Asian cultures and their rituals, the media is responsible for most of what I've heard about honour killings, FGM, disowning family for going against beliefs, and other incidents where punishments are given outside of the law. I thought this may have of a similar nature. I am aware of good traditions also. | |||
