I drive in reverse out. I'm usually needing my boot to get puter out for work or put shopping in.

In snow I twirl in if no one is about.

At the supermarket I normally drive in so that its easier to load stuff into the boo but otherwise I normally reverse into a space to make it easier to drive away.

Come up at 60 mph, handbrake J-Turn into the space with 2 inches to spare either end! Which makes getting out again a bit tricky

almost always reverse in

i only passed a year ago and mr b has always banged on about how it was easier to reverse in but the day after i passed i went to the local garden center and went to just drive in, well i cocked it up completely and was scarily close to the car next to me, my nerves kicked in and for the life of me i couldn't work out what way to turn the wheel to get myself out of the situation

i sat there not knowing what to do when the owners of the car next to me appeared and i sat there appologising like a loon and the poor buggers thought i had hit their car

well once i stopped babbling they very kindly talked me through manouvering my car without hitting theirs

once i was in properly the guy turned to me and said "you should try reversing in its much easier"

well needless to say from that day to this i almost always reverse in

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

If I`m in the tractor and mowers I can drive in AND drive out because I have to take either a block of four spaces side-by-side if it`s a single row or a block of four spaces if it`s two rows in the middle. I always leave the front poader down on the ground too (good HSE practice

) which sort of guarantees me the car trying to get into the next space will keep away as far as they can!

And I also reverse into my drive as it is, I think' illegal to reverse out of your drive

Something to do with you cannot reverse into a higher class road..

Ie your drive is lower class than the main road

Damn those chav roads..

Do not reverse from a side road into a main road. When using a driveway, reverse in and drive out if you can.

its only guidancce not law so its not illegal.

As for the driveway V Road class thing, your driveway is not considered a road, so that does not come into it

Its a safety stat thing, oodles of accidents occur with folks who have quickly driven front in, to supermarket space then given themselves the trickier job of reversing out, a visibility thing, take the wee bit extra time to reverse in if you can.

The point of law in that instance is that a driveway is not a road, ergo you would not be reversing from a lesser road onto a higher class road and thus it's perfectly legal to reverse off your drive.

Rule 201 of the Highway Code states:

"Do not reverse from a side road into a main road. When using a driveway, reverse in and drive out **if you can**."

When it comes to the highway code, if the rule begins with thw words 'You Must' then its a law, if it begins 'You Should' then its an advisory.

However should you be involved in an incident where you ignored an advisory it could be used against you in an insurance claim.

Newer copies of the highway code also have the relevent law and section of the law when reffering to something that can be illegal

I always reverse into any space, or a drive if I'm having to park on one!

It isn't about any legal, visibility or other aspects, it's just sometyhing that I learnt from both my driving instructor and from an article in a major motoring magazine a few years ago.

Invariably, when you reverse out of a parking space or area, you'll have only recently turned on the ignition. By doing so, reverse driving places more strain on the engine and other components, before they have warmed up sufficiently.

Apparently, turning on the ignition and driving forwards doesn't impose so much strain.

It does sound odd I know, but it aids fuel consumption too over a period of time. An uncle of mine who had his own garage business for dcades swore blind too that even in modern cars, reverse in and drive out was the better option for optimum engine and vehicle health

If parking on the street always leave enough room to drive away without reversing.

When in traffic can always see at least a foot of tarmac behind the back wheels of the car in front.

Never been car jacked yet PPPPPP.

If the parking space is on my left I will drive in...if it is on my right I will reverse in

. I do prefer to reverse in where ever possible though and have driven round a little to get the parking space to my right

The Carriageway (Road) is deemed generally to be measured from the middle of the road to the adjacent building line. As a drive way is behind the building line it isn't part of the carriageway. It does mean however that if there are yellow lines on the road, you can still get a ticket if you are parked on the pavement...
