Your storeys, wether Internet has made it a better or worse experience....if your say 35 or under, have you ever found a mate without using digital media in 1 way or another???

I've never dated anyone I met online. Everyone I dated, and the man I married, I met while I was at school/university.

I don't get why some people feel like the internet is the only place to meet people these days. There are plenty of other ways to meet people. Sometimes I feel like it's lazy - it's just easier to write one profile and then complain that dating online doesn't work.

Thanks for your input... I can say now that I've just realised it, at 43 yrs old I've had 3/4 long term happy relationship and many Internet type dates.. Not just fab but actually drinks n dating... All 4 successfull relationships were from real life situations, in a bar, friend of friend etc....

I've never spent more than a month or 2 at best, usually one off from any Internet based relationship.

A good friend of mine just got married to a guy she met on an online dating site. They've been together over 3 years so far.

I guess what I'm saying is that social interactions are dynamic. Some people do better online, some do better in person. If one thing isn't working for a person, they should widen their approach. Online dating can be great, but I think it can also hold some people back. Especially since it seems to be more about sexual encounters these days than relationships.

Both my long term relationships were through meeting in the real world, one at university and the other at work.

I've had short term relationships through the internet and I've been seeing someone for almost a year that I met through the internet though it's not a relationship as such.

At my age I think it's a lot harder to meet in real life situations. My friends are married with children, going out on my own just seems sad so meeting through the internet works for me and I've met so many different interesting people that I would never have met otherwise.

A lot of it (I believe) is down to the fact that we just don't socialise as much as we used to

Apart from our younger "school" lives, do we go out with our work colleagues as much?

Do we know our neighbours or many people where we live?

Are we separated from friends and family a lot more by distance?

I think that it was those social groups where many relationships used to start.

Without that we turn to the Internet where don't even have to go out and physically interact with people any more. And I think that a lot of our social skills are diminished as a result

Using the Internet to date requires a lot of effort and dedication, something I haven't got time for. I was on a dating site and had one date, decided it wasn't for me and I prefer the good old fashion way, so I'll wait until I bump into "mr right"...if it ever happens.

I have had one relationship where I met a lady in an Internet chat room. Best thing that ever happened to me. We have been together for 15 years and married 5 years ago.

It's hard bloody work trying to pull a woman in a bar. Trying to chat up a girl in a noisy bar can be tough! Internet dating gives you a lot more options and is tons easier getting a date.

Problem is it can be very disposable and fickle. Easy to end up dating multiple people. Guess there's pros and cons to each.

It's miles better with the internet because you can get to meet incredible people who you would not normally cross paths with otherwise.

Internet dating is basically fab but with drinks and dinner included and maybe less spanking and threesomes.

my last ex i met online, i didn't realise he was still using the internet to look for other people while we were together. i met him on a fetish site looking for dating/relationship.

and my ex before that, we met on a gaming site and i wasn't looking for anyone.

i think the internet is better for hooking up, you can easily find someone any time, and it's made people a lot more disposable, which can be a good thing or bad, depends how you look at it.

I went on around 15 dates looking for love on a conventional dating site over a year or so... I met around 15 nice enough and incompatable ladies but enjoyed their time and learnt a lot about different walks of life at around 40 odd yrs old... Internet dating isn't for me by experience, things might look OK on paper but can't beet chemistry of a friend of a friend, someone you see in a supermarket etc....

i don't go around thinking about it, i'm mostly a hermit, unless i'm out having fun, i expect people don't feel i'm single or, its in situations where they aren't d*unk enough to approach me, that's how i feel about the vanilla world. it doesn't interest me much. those chatting me up while d*unk don't have a hope.

i place my fate in the hands of fortuna, shes done well for me so far..i don't regret my relationships as some do..i don't regret my single status either, what will be will be x

Yeah definitely agree. Plus dating sites are full of weirdos and creeps that send pics of their cock without anything else said. Maybe fine here but on a dating site

I can get on with people perfectly fine online but find it lacks that personal connection unless you can and such like. Even then it feels a bit lacking.

I guess for me the way it works is for both to be totally honest and open.

If one person isn't willing to let the other know even the deepest inner thoughts then online will never work. It worked for me because this happened. I got to know the other person inside and out. Maybe we were lucky but that total honesty goes a long way

I met my ex and the father of my child in a nightclub back in 2000, we split in 2009 and I've not had another boyfriend since then.

In the real world and especially my age bracket, you just don't know who is single and wanting to be approached. Online hasn't worked out for me either but at least you know they want to be chatted up.
