i do tend to join in with the banter etc, noticed a few people get overlooked a lot, a few 'outsiders' will join in and comment on different things, but you can see them totally by-passed by the hardcore 'clique' , unless of course they say something thats not agreed by said clique, then they all turn on the poster, kind of like a pack mentality.

You have admit that there is an obvious clique here, with a few outsiders chipping in here and there.

If your comments about insecurities are aimed at me then I'm afraid your sadly mistaken, I was stating the blindingly obvious with my original post. Its the same whichever forum on the internet that you go in, some cliques are far stronger than others but still active regardless of whether people accept they are there or not.

I think bad feeling across this forum seems to appear in fits and starts. Over the last few months there didn't seem to be any mention of cliques yet over the last few weeks there's seems an underlying animosity floating across the forum again. Maybe its the seasons.

There are always going to be groups of people who have met at socials and are friendly and they are close on the forum. There will be those who have to make sarcastic quips to others to play to the crowd. If you thrive on the adoration of others and enjoy belittling people to get the round of applause then that's fine. We come here and get out of it what we put in.

We will all appeal to certain groups and this may look exclusion. Just like we are attractive to some, our personalities won't suit all either.

Your inbox is a good measure. If its full of guys or women who think you're sexy and great and they want to get to know you better, then that's positive. If its full of forum members bitching about others with messages like 'god cheeky bitch, see what she wrote' and 'hey high five you got one over on her/him, then perhaps a bit of self assessment wouldn't go amiss.

I'm sorry you feel this way OP, let's hope you can interact and find it fun sometime soon

if it was an open forum about whatever subject, then yes i would expect my voice to be heard, though your comparison is rather short sighted as being in a pub in general is totally different to posting on a forum, if the op was about pm's then i would fully agree with your comparison, but as its not then i dont feel what you say is any help to the thread

you forget that people here may have met each other at parties... or at socials, and hence have built up those relationship and will have a better understand of each other than you have at this point in time.....

you know what... you are right, it is an open forum, and remember that not everyone is going to agree with what you say....

if you are going to dismiss the ones that don't agree with you, and slather over the ones that do... then maybe you are not as "open" as you would like to admit... and maybe you are part of a slighty different clique, but you don't see it....

nope cause I am happy bantering at high speed on occasion and other times sitting in the shade watching...

and actually OP I think you have done great since you started posting, you participate and get replies.. so if I did think there was a clique... I would probably say you were part of it

I do however think it is at times unwelcoming, however, some just get on with it and do well, some become immensely needy and if a thread designed to grab attention leading to a meet sooner than later.. doesn't quite get the result... we are left with 'user no longer on site'.

all in all... you get back, what you put in.

you may not no everybody in the pub, you may be in an unfamiliar pub, therefore you dont know everybody, so indeed your comment was short sighted.

as for replies to posts etc, i reply as i see fit, whether i agree or not, who has posted whatever comment has no bearing at all on what my reply will be. you cant honestly sit there and think there isnt a clique on here who can sometimes make things difficult for newbies and people outside the clique.

Surely for a clique to be a clique, people on the outside of the clique must want to try and get in the clique in order to be excluded from the clique and thus confirm the clique exists. Which kind of implies it is the people trying to get into the clique who are responsible for the clique existing, for without them it wouldn’t be a clique as they would have no one to exclude.

And surely for a clique to continue to be a clique it must continue to be selective and exclude people from joining the clique… which kind of means there must be a number of people outside of the clique who have been excluded. If you are with other people outside of the clique and you still feel excluded….. is that because the other rejected people have also rejected you?

To be fair, I really couldn't be arsed to read all of this thread because I know it's going to be "oooh, there's no clique here" and "some people are insecure" etc.

My two pence worth is OP I wouldn't say there was a clique per se, but I do know what you mean. I don't post so much, not because I feel excluded, simply, you'll see an interesting thread, start to read it and it's overtaken by certain (the same people) all the time. Sadly, as I get older, and my concentration waivers, I well and truly can't be bothered to scroll through the in jokes and love ins: I just go and do something more interesting instead...like sorting out my knicer drawer.

I post if I have something to add, then forget about it nine times out of ten...goldfish memory and all that.

Just join in OP, you have to realise for some people this appears to be their life, and they need the constant reassurance of people here...don't let it put you off.

There's no such thing as a clique, only a perceived clique by those who consider themselves outside of one.

People who have got to know each other know more about each other than those who don't know anyone, and thus can comment on things they knew previously that may or may not relate to the current topic of discussion. Those who don't know any previous information that may have been passed could easily construe these hidden paraphrasings as a being of a clique in nature.

They are not 'cliquey', of course, they are simply unknown to the new user trying to figure out what is being said, by whom, to whom, about what.

A lot of the regular forum posters have actually met several times at socials etc

I can kinda see where the idea originates from but we all started as newbies we just integrated that's the difference

And if people actually took time to read threads they would find that most of the so called cliques are the ones that disagree with eachother the most

Most of the time I avoid the serious and just get on with pissing about

Are you muddling the terminology? We're all on the forum and interacting at some level with everyone else so thats a clique. Some of the clique banter more than others but its totally harmless. I post to another forum its exactly the same and can seem intimidating at first.

Did you mean the sub-species though? You know the ones I'm referring to. The PM Warriors - the ones who purposely write to each other to confirm their next move to belittle and bully others. Theres no cure for those types.

dya know what peeps, i have to say i thought about the dangers of posting such a thread as this before i actually did, but decided to take the plunge with it.

i honestly thank everyone of you for you input on it, i have learnt a lot about some of the regular posters by what you have said.

some people grasped the true nature of my op, some decidec to get all high and mighty, some even a little offensive/abusive, you all know which catergory you fit into there.

just to set the record straight though :

1. this was not a look at me thread

2. this was not a poor me thread

3. this was not an i want to be in a clique thread

If one expects a warm welcome, with people throwing their arms around him/her, as soon as he/she walks into a packed pub as a complete stranger, then he/she is very naive IMHO.

This forums board, and many others like it, is no different to a pub, or any social gathering.

i dont even know what your comment means at this point in the thread, i'm sure you have just picked a point someone said earlier on in the thread and re-written it just to have your say

but just to be clear, this is not a pub or social gathering, this is an online forum, where anybodies voice could and should be heard, not overlooked by cliques who have a pm bitch behind the forum and then carry their little jokes into the forum with back-handed comments, making it really hard for people to feel they can post and be taken seriously on subjects they have interests in.
