We're blessed with 2 spider assassin kitties, who do all our bug control duties. They're especially effective with the big hairy bastards, like a challenge to them.

Yes loads.

We used to have one that seemed to live under the TV. It would run across the floor and back most nights. Think that was its daily excercise

I like spiders and even have a tattoo of one.

My daughters dad is terrified of them.

I was very careful to bring her up not to be scared of spiders and bugs, and she is now a spider lover.

its also a repulsion to things pretty much entirely different...to most. you'd never say aww look at that baby ant....generally we just dont like invertebrates as they dont generally have the features ourselves and other animals have.

We went for a walk on Sunday morning and a carer outbwith a lad that has Downs syndrome walked towards us.

We gave way at the style and as they came through it the lad grabbed the biggest spider I've seen for years plus the whole web and ate the lot!!

Try explaining to your wife while laughing hard enough to shed a tear or two that the Down syndrome element of that whole scenario had no baring at all and you'd have laughed at anyone eating a massive spider plus its web!

Never kept Praying Mantis,heard the Budwing Praying Mantis can be quite aggressive though.What species did you have?"

one was a common green...cant remember the species name, other was a very beautiful leaf mantis. The thing is about mantids is watching there eyes..there is much more action in the eyes than you'll see in many inverts.

Had several salmon pinks recommend them great bird eaters much nice than the Goliaths that want to flick hairs all the time.

Tempted with a Goliath as they're massive and usually defensively aggressive,I like a challenge,which is why I've got a Cobalt Blue and a Malaysian Earthtiger I do like the look of the salmon pinks though,usually defensively aggressive and they aren't really hiders so they make a good display spider

Spider lifespan varies by species,also females tend to live a lot longer than males.I'm starting to be tempted to get a Praying Mantis now...

mantis lifespan is about a year tops,my leaf mantis when it was fully aged started to fly

I'd be worried about it escaping and flying off I've had several escapees over the years,bloody snakes are the worst for it

lol well as I said, thats them essentially mature...it wouldnt have much longer to live.....dont be put off...bloody get one!

I was actually thinking today of getting something again...just googled a giant chinese mantis £10 on ebay...am tempted...I'll get some great pics and not have to wander in pretty rubbish scottish woods for insects lol..I might even take it a walk lol

*goes to Scotland and hides in the woods*

hunting innocent snakes

Or looking for a photographer to take pics in the woods

I can bring a Python,reptile or trouser variety,whichever you would prefer "

Never kept Praying Mantis,heard the Budwing Praying Mantis can be quite aggressive though.What species did you have?

one was a common green...cant remember the species name, other was a very beautiful leaf mantis. The thing is about mantids is watching there eyes..there is much more action in the eyes than you'll see in many inverts.

They do have so much more animation and expression to them than other inverts,were they easy to keep and maintain?

pretty much...not a huge lifespan compared to spiders you have I imagine. More fun to watch definitely...mine were easy to handle...maybe just a jagged forearm pinch lol

We used to have one that seemed to live under the TV. It would run across the floor and back most nights. Think that was its daily excercise

Did you ever notice if the spider appears when the TV is out or if he wasn't dressed up in sezy lingerie.

For every one you see and probably kill there are at least five more watching you lurking waiting to reap revenge on you as you sleep scurrying , crawling all over your hair and face and having a poo as they do ....so don't kill them or they will get you ....
