It was more a fetish event rather than swinging - a friend of mine went to it and he is very active on the fetish scene. I imagine they advertised and networked on the fetishy sites that we aren't allowed to mention in fabs, rather than promoting it to swingers.

Fab is NOT the MAIN swinging scene - there is no MAIN swinging scene. This is a popular misconception of Fab users that believe this site to be the centre of the earth when it comes to meeting people for recreational sex. It's simply not the case at all.

Flamefest was well attended by many people I know, some of whom use Fab, and some who don't. There are LOADS of other websites for sex contacts, clubs and parties that have nothing to do with Fab - the reason people have this Fab-centric belief is that the admins on here ban any mention of any other website - other sites do not do this, thus the misconception exists.

Flamefest had a death, yes, the fact it was a sex/fetish event is neither here nor there - a large amount of TG goers were there, and as I said, many I know personally, but the event was essentially a dance event with a sexual/fetish theme and therefore had a drug-related element, which as we all know is not uncommon on the sex/fetish scene both for dancing all night, as well as chem-sex which is also extremely popular, if not widely spoken about.

To sum up, the comment about Fab being the main website for contacts is just not true, and Flamefest is an event that happened to have a death - unrelated to the sexual element which has been highlighted in the media as some sort of evil as usual.

I recently did a check for alternatives and found a good free site that was very open about all the other options. I took a peek at all the free ones and found, although they're good, and some of them do indeed have their own life (in particular a certain fetish related site), most are much smaller and quieter than Fab, often with the same people on it as back up.

Just today on this forum we have over 2 pages of posts. On many of the others the second or third post on a page was from a day ago. This, to me, suggests there's not much life on these sites, a view the good other free site I visited echoed. So I'm pretty confident Fab is still the central hub of the swinging community. If I'm out of date and it's all moved off elsewhere please would someone message us and give us the scoop.

I return to my previous puzzlement, though. In the various clubs we've been to over the last year Fab has been frequently mentioned to us. Is the fetish scene not really aware of Fab? I just find it odd that a major sex festival failed to market itself to the central hub of the swinging community. It just seems to have surprised everyone. Is there an issue here between the scenes? Or was the venue trying to distance itself from the very similar Swingfields? It's just odd

Fab is the best site for forum pleasure. I think a free site wins hands down ! Other sex, swinging etc sites are poor in comparison, though I like to pursue other needs that are more narrow too

Flamefest wasn't promoted on Fab because the type of people who generally use Fab are not the type of people that would have any interest in Flamefest. As I mentioned in my post, a lot of the Flamefest goers are the type of people that go to events like TG - again, not really your typical Fab user.

There are many strains of sex-event and sex-based-recreation and your typical Fab user is a purely sexual being, not particularly affiliated to anything to do with fetish, or BDSM, or more niche events, it's just about sex-contacts.

I believe my point stands, in that Fab users are very Fab-centric and rarely, if ever, stray onto any other paths/sites/scenes other than the purely sex-contact, one to one, private party or sex club scene. I used to run an event in central London that gathered around 300 people per event, run 4 times a year and guarantee you that about 99% of people on Fab have never heard of it - again, not because it wasn't well publicised but because the type of event it was would not attract, not would we have wanted to attract your typical Fab-swinger.

Swingers are a very different breed to many other strains of non-monogamous, fetish, or BDSM inclined people - and this is really the bottom line - there are numerous tribes among the sex-scene, all with their own particular tastes, which is exactly how it should be - the point is that Flamefest and other events don't interest, nor do they want to attract your general purpose swinger.

From my understanding flamefest was a weekend event that ended Sunday night, and the woman in hospital and the man who died were found this morning.

Yes they may have attended flamefest and decided to make a long weekend of it by staying a few extra days, after it finished, in an empty field, on private land.

But isn't it just as likely or even more likely that these 2 people had nothing to do with flamefest, and the newspapers are just connecting the location they were found with flamefest just to get a juicy story and make money??

Now I'm confused. This makes me feel that as a couple of "kinky, quirky, creative hedonists" who would have been very interested in going to this festival... we're on the wrong site We don't really see ourselves as swingers, more sexual explorers... and we're quite off "swinging" events at this point... looking more into tantric and other approaches. Hmm maybe we've been barking up the wrong tree? But I know of know other "sexually liberated" site that's as alive as this. I think we may need hooking up and moving on

Fab is not the centre of the swinging world at all. The forums are active here (not always in a good way) but theres other sites that are more active in other ways such as chatrooms etc. When we chat to others in clubs (throughout our swinging life of many many years) theres other clubs mentioned more, one especially, many people havnt even heard of Fab.

Large events often find a body or 2 in the clear up. It's not uncommon at festivals or raves, seldom gets further than the local paper.

Add some sex and it's headline news.

I've just been researching alternative sites and quite frankly it's a blur of fake looking pay sites with apparently millions of members in the Poole area yeah right and the old few sleepy faithfuls still limping along.

One thing I did find was a discussion among swingers about good sites which mentioned the fetish site but remarked that the fetish scene is quite antagonistic to swingers. That, and some of the comments on this thread, point to a curious rift between the two communities which I've been unaware of.

Why don't fetish people like swingers?

As a member of both Fab and a very well known fetish site I feel they do cross over. I am in a few groups on the other site for fetish swingers and local swingers. I have never had any antagonism directed at me. If anything the opposite. We both consider ourselves hedonists in our search for sexual freedom so just listing ourselves as swingers is only a small part of us. I know several swingers who are on the same fetish site as I am.

i know the person who was found so it very sad news for me but I have to make this point the event was over and was found in the late stage of clean police have to do there job until then the newspapers are just making up a story to feed there needs. They had a good story pre opening and as event was on photos taken of people in there tents. Was taken and is it far worse then after the death they send to press a photo of the facebook thank you with crew real names. This is wrong
