What a blooding bitch it is

I'm in agony with it

Can't get into the Drs till tomorrow, been taking tramadol for the past two days and it's not even taking the edge off the pain

Looks like another night of no sleep

I have a really good pain threshold but at 3am it reduced me to tears

I've been told to sleep on the floor does that really help

Any advice greatly receive

Brighton - even Hove!

If it really is your sciatic nerve, try this: Lift your left leg and place your right ankle on top of the left knee. Hold the position for a moment. This helps stretch the tiny piriformis muscle, which sometimes becomes inflamed and presses against the sciatic nerve, causing pain. Do the same exercise with the other leg.

Shrewsbury

Try and do some stretching.

Look for yoga types of stretches try pinterset, there are some very good exercises on there.

No.

Feel for you, it's a Bitch !

I resort to flexisec cream when it's really painful but probably too late to pop chemists. Just dose up on the tramas and grit your teeth.

I do find red hot baths are good for it but then can't sleep because body won't cool down

Around five or ten minutes of stretching a day sorts my sciatic nerve out. I was lucky enough to have seen a decent osteopath that showed me the correct stretches to prevent the need for more visits.

Its horrible isnt it, poor you. I found ice packs were the best form of relief as mine was caused by slipped disc trapping the nerve so it reduced swelling a smidge. But ulitmately it was surgery that stopped the pain... although I still get twinges... and not the kind I like!

Stretches for core and swimming are best exercise to help

Hope it eases soon and take care on the tramadol... i had the worst halluicinations on that stuff so couldnt take it

Acupuncture worked for me. Six sessions stopped sciatica and mild tennis elbow for me. Over a decade now, no reoccurrence

Oh, and take paracetamol with the tramadol. It enhances the effectiveness of the tramadol.

I worked with a lady that had it. She was in so much pain at times it was brutal. Pain pills stopped working for her too so she but the bullet and had the op to sort it out

It was her last option but it worked

Traffic land

You poor soul, I was crippled with it this time last year.

It's the only thing that has ever made me cry out in pain, I'd rather go through a million un- medicated births than get that again.

I really didn't find anything that particularly helped I'm afraid. I lost 3 months of my life last year in a drugged haze where my 6 year old had to help me get dressed

However if it does happen again (and I get regular twinges) I'm armed with the details of a well recommended physio and will go straight to them. Can anyone recommend one to you?

...Up on the Downs

Get a referral to secure a diagnosis in order to get appropriate treatment - sciatica has several possible causes.

Physio helps but NHS treatment takes a while to sort out so i see a person who does sports massage, the best £40/£45 i ever spent, she also fixes my trapeze muscle. Stretching exercises help as does tramadol, paracetemol and ibruprofen taken as directed. A hot water bottle or similar helps too. I was also given a low dose of antidepresent because it helps with pain too.

Good luck.

This is the key..psoas needs to be stretched to release the tension.. basically how a cat or dog stretches after laying curled up...do the same it's helped me a lot....J

sleeping on the floor will not help. Gently stretch your leg by crossing one leg over the other and gently pulling your knee up and across, a tiny bit at first or you'll make it worse.

Do you know where the pain originates? Is it in your spine? Does it cause any numbness and is it alleviated by sitting down?

Try sitting down and leaning slightly forward slightly as if you're riding a bike and holding the handlebars.

Don't be fobbed off by the doctor tomorrow, ask to be referred to a musculo skeletal specialist and a physio.

Hope you get it sorted, sciatic pain is crippling.

Thanku everyone for your input

I've been to the Drs which cost me a small fortune

He has given me a sheet with stretching exercises

Also being booked in for a scan

And I'm back at the Drs next week again

I am now organising for carers to come in twice a day to get mum in and out of bed as I really can't do it at the moment, trying to turn a hoist with her in it is impossible at the moment

So I've swallowed my pride and asked for help

Honestly being in labour nearly six hours and pushing out a nearly nine pound baby was far less painful
