work it out between yourselves really.

i've had hotels paid for for myself, offered to go halves but the guys wouldn't let me so i wasn't fussed about paying.

I have paid half, yes. Some have insisted on paying, because they are up this way anyway, so would have needed a hotel regardless. I see no problem with how each person wants to play it. Hell, I've even paid for mine and someone's coffee/drinks. As long as everyone is happy with the arrangements, that's all that matters.

I don't have anything to with booking or paying for hotels. I'll pay for drinks before the hotel.

what if they dont want you to pick up the tab. Its not very gentlemanly to compromise a womans independance

That is always a consideration, and there are some women that insist, which is fine. But I think that it's just good manners, like opening a door, or being courteous...
