Why do the forces get such a bad press from some people? If someone was to put no shop assistants or nurses then questions would be asked being prejudiced against someone because of there job has to be wrong.

Never seen a bio reject them. But obviously we do different searches

It's a bit like no bi men and no black men or Asians. Yes you will see profiles saying this.

Ignore those and look for the profiles that say forces guys to the front of queue .

Very happy to help our heroes

I'd never put "No firefighters" but I don't believe any guy who says he is. I had one once. I told him I'd done the fire brigade as part of my Duke of Edinburgh award so would be asking some technical questions, because too many guys claim to be firefighters - always the Hollywood term rather than firemen - like they think ti'll get them more women. And tgirls.

There was a thread on the AFF magazine about it and there were three guys claiming to be firefighters out of around 30 members. What are the odds compared to the odds of guys being lying liary liars?

we had a guy who claimed to be on a Watch at my old station, sent a face pic and one of him in a tunic that wasn't standard issue..

another sad Walt..

but in some ways the amount of men who will pretend to be pilots, police, forces and firefighters maybe has something to do with the fantasy aspect that some women have for such professions..

Having worked with the forces for about 8 years as a civilian they no longer hold appeal for me now. Prior to that oh yes, a man in uniform. The way that a lot / not all of them behaved was enough to make the rose coloured spectacles fall away from my eyes.

I avoid only because of horrible, personal experience outside this group.

Maybe it's unfair but the second a guy mentions he's forces, my lady parts practically crawl up inside and hide behind my liver.

I can't force myself to change that reaction.

I don't think not wanting to shag a lad cos he is in the army is treating him contemptuously

Neither do I think it takes anything away from sacrifices people have made

It is just one of a thousand reasons that people find on here not to meet someone

Define "contempt" - is not wanting to shag you because their preference is not you contemptuous? Is it prejudicial?

No. Grow a pair, suck it up and find women who do want to shag you instead of whining about those that don't.

I don't see why it's a selling point; but I'm ex forces myself, so that could be why. I've never been influenced to bump ugglies with someone based on their profession.

However, apparently some see it as a no-no as is their prerogative, so I would suggest you suck it up, take a man up pill and concentrate on the thousands of others who aren't anti-forces.

I'd imagine that it's due to having had or seen experience that deterred them. Perhaps using career in excess to personality or other qualities, to leverage meets - not giving people what they needed. Whilst it's tough for single men here, anything that weakens a guy's position should be avoided at all costs.

Forces guys just need to focus on making their efforts effective as well as focused upon those of us who will meet them. Don't flog dead horses.

I think if hypothetical proof were needed of how inappropriate it is for individuals to post pictures of themselves wearing service uniform on here, all that would be required would be too canvas the opinion of their commanding officers whether they feel it's OK to parade those uniforms on a swingers site ....

I do love a man in uniform and Army is my preferred choice, however I can see why some are put off especially by the younger squaddies. I've spent quite a lot of time with the Army in various guises and from experience I prefer Ssgt and above simply because I've found them to have greater levels of maturity.

I can understand why some say no army. Where I live there are a lot of army guys and they are generally looking to fill their boredom and expect then and there meets and often can't accommodate and generally don't fit with my way of meeting. I have met a couple of army guys so obviously there are exceptions. But generally I won't entertain the idea. Not because of the job they do but because of their lifestyle.

I would suggest that you don't jump to any conclusions my simple point I was trying to make is that if people prefer not to see army, navy, raf, marines lads or lasses then that's fine that's a preference but let's not tarnish them all with the same brush, yes some are childish, but so can any other bloke or woman on here be exactly the same, the bottom line is we are all here for the same reason so if you don't like something skip pass it, if you like them go ahead and tell them ... and let's not ever suggest for my credibility I am in any way shape or form implying that you are doing anything other than being on this website for your own reasons

Just our personal opinion and experience.

We have Lympstone marine camp down the road, Marines in Taunton and Barnstaple, Other Navy down in Plymouth. There are also several Army units in the nearby area. However, in all the time we have been on here we have not had one serviceman actually turn up, there has always been a last minute excuse along the lines of 'the sergeant is picking on me and put me on guard tonight'.

Now we accept that sometimes this might be true, and we accept that non servicemen are just as prone to crying off at the last minute. But after being let down many times, we would be lying if we said it wasn't a small factor in our decisions these days.

"I'm not anti forces ... I have great respect them.....

But in order for an individual persons to gain respect they need to be respectful to their uniform and in my opinion this is not an appropriate arena for that ....

But I'm not anti forces and resent any accusation otherwise

So I'm going to ask the simple question ... a teacher in a suit and tie? Is that not the same? A nurse in a copy of a sexier version? Is that not the same? A police man or woman? Why are we only here slating our armed forces men and woman (who we seem to have forgot exist) again it's a personal preference ... do we really need to moan?

The topic of the thread is military service uniform..

In all my years on here I've never seen anyone using a genuine police uniform or nurses uniform as a selling point on this site ...

I afraid trying to punctuate a contradiction based on a tangential example of fancy dress costume does nothing to further your point...

I'm not as you say slating our armed forces and I would suggest for your own credibility you refrain from try to imply that I am .,

I would suggest that you don't jump to any conclusions my simple point I was trying to make is that if people prefer not to see army, navy, raf, marines lads or lasses then that's fine that's a preference but let's not tarnish them all with the same brush, yes some are childish, but so can any other bloke or woman on here be exactly the same, the bottom line is we are all here for the same reason so if you don't like something skip pass it, if you like them go ahead and tell them ... and let's not ever suggest for my credibility I am in any way shape or form implying that you are doing anything other than being on this website for your own reasons"

Well put, thank you

"Just our personal opinion and experience.

But after being let down many times, we would be lying if we said it wasn't a small factor in our decisions these days."

What you say is understandable but it could quite easily apply to anyone else as well. A phone call to said individual beforehand would give a better impression of that person?

I have met a few squaddies off of here and all have been really lovely guys and great fun too but can't say as I care one way or another about the job they do. Although they do look hot in their uniform...better out of it tho

its life, get over it and concentrate on those who will meet serving forces people..

people have preferences, its no big deal and its not prejudice..

am ex forces btw so pretty much know that in the military there are as many time wasting fantasists as there are in other professions, equally there are normal good people..

I think you have hit the nail on the head! I know that those characteristics are not required in the job reference, for sure! and a lot of people are like outside the forces to, maybe you have been unlucky in getting immature people?

Did we say that anywhere that we hadn't spoken to the people involved? No, didn't think so, so please don't presume.

We can't change the past, but we can explain our own experiences for the benefit of you and others. You did raise the subject after all.

To be fair I'd think anyone who advertised their job as a reason to fuck them was a bit of a loser really. It's not part of my selection criteria.

its more the stupidity that someone who would have something like that on their profile would make that public so that in the event of etc ..

or that other members of the forces, air sea rescue would not carry out a mission because..

Why do they have to consider how far anyone has walked in their life to influence who they meet?! Being in the forces doesn't give you any extra status!! Have you even been on Ops? The only 'group' of people I choose not to meet are military.

I grew up on army barracks. Was in the army myself. Too many bad experiences. And when I have let it slide, they've turned out to be dingbats.

Are all military folk dingbats? No, but I'd simply rather not.

And I apologise for using the term remf as it's derogatory and everyone in the forces serves an important purpose. When I say REMF I mean those that never left camp and were in relative safety throughout but make out to all that they were 'in contact' on a regular basis and saw some 'heavy shit' when the truth of the matter is they didnt see anything.

Maybe you aren't one of the 'Walter mittys' and I'm wrong but your attitude that 'people should try walking a mile in my shoes before saying no squadrons' suggests I'm not far off being right

People have their preferences and it needs to be respected. If someone doesn't want to meet someone from the armed forces, that is completely their right. We don't know what personal experiences they may have had with someone from the armed services in the past. For one profile who won't, there are others who will. Just concentrate on the ones who will. Some people only go for blonde hair, but i don't think they're prejudiced because my hair is black.... Horses for courses OP .

It's not a preference either way for us, try not to discount anyone for their skin colour/job/religion- despite having been married (now divorced) to an army guy for 19 years.

I must admit though if the talk turns to anything army/tours etc during the social part of the meet I find it a bit off putting, but if the guy is ok it's not a drama

Right, I'll have to put on protective clothing after this but most soldiers I know (apart from a few officers/physios) joined up because they were either too thick to get a job or they would have ended up in prison if it wasn't for joining up.

They then develop a sense of entitlement because they 'serve'.

The sense of entitlement + the lack of intelligence usually results in someone you wouldn't want to meet.

Sweeping generalisation, I know but you can only form opinions based on personal experience.

"Why do the forces get such a bad press from some people? If someone was to put no shop assistants or nurses then questions would be asked being prejudiced against someone because of there job has to be wrong.

A friend of mine that used to be on here was against meeting army or ex army. She always maintained they had a sense of entitlement to get a meet like they are owed the sex for going to Iraq, Afghanistan etc

Probably just a bit of ptsd? "

Or just the ones she met were arses. Recently spoke with a bi ex squaddie who had similar traits but at least he accepted no as an answer.

Things changed a lot, and perhaps your experiences may be relevant to a time in the past, or certain sections of the services a lit changed.

In fact if you look, there's a large section of educated men and women who join for adventure and experience.

Sense of entitlement? Maybe some but sometimes there's sections of society who are jealous of any group, and the services can be quite tight knit.

I think the biggest thing here, is that if you don't brag about or discuss what you do then ....oddly enough you're just you and it's irrelevant what you do.

Playing devils advocate, it could be that the profession of soldier indicates to them an view of violence that they are not completely comfortable with.

We tend not to talk to much about peoples career choices so attitude on meeting is what matters but if a profile self declared that they were a professional hitman/woman it would be a cause for consideration.

Not accurate. The move from the 7.62mm round to 5.56mm was led by the US military in the 70's for the main reason that it was lighter and you're average soldier could therefore carry more ammunition. NATO countries followed suit under pressure from the US for interoperability reasons.

It was only during the first Gulf War that criticisms of the 5.56mm rounds lack of stopping power really began to become apparent. By that point pretty much every NATO country has binned 7.62mm as the main round of choice.

Yes the move was premoted by the U.S. but the move to lighten the round could of been done by adoption of the 7.62 short like the Russian have?

"Just our personal opinion and experience.

But after being let down many times, we would be lying if we said it wasn't a small factor in our decisions these days."

Our experience living in the same area has been virtually identical, except they usually vanish when you start trying to arrange to meet, got to a point where G said we wouldn't make any plans with forces guys in future. Since then we met two who don't make any mention of their employment in their profiles, only found out after chatting or when we actually met, and they were diamonds. I'm wary of anyone who uses their uniform as a selling point.

Well to tie this all up from my point of view, it seems people who have inadvertently shown their weaknesses and fears on both sides of the argument and generally lack of knowledge of what the army is for, compounded by generalizing of types based on local regiments . On a deeper philosophical level the army has been redundant for over 60 years on that basis. Overseas territories have gone over to self rule or been held by diplomacy. And international peacekeeping has caused more wars than it has prevented.

Not saying it is the soldiers fault, but the concept of having an army is an unanswered question.

Our forces are the reason you are all here today, living free lives, safe from oppression.

Our forces have fought off invaders who would have took all that from you.

Our forces have helped other countries enjoy the same freedom.

Going a bit deeper, should the metaphorical poo hit the fan for what ever reason we will need an army to protect the way of life you are use to as for war's I am a firm believer in if you have gone to war the political powers have failed, therefore the Generals who are trained to win wars should be aloud to do just that without political interference. And without armies in peacekeeping duties the situation would be far worse .take a look at the Balkans, and having done three Bosnia tours and one of Kosovo I have an idea what it could of been like.

"I repeat myself for you who are a bit slow

The Armies primary purpose is with protecting the United Kingdom and its overseas territories, promoting Britain's wider security interests, and supporting international peacekeeping efforts.

I think it was John F. Kennedy who said

ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. I wonder what your life has answered this question with?

And what has your life answered the question with?

The only real answer to what is the army for is "because they have one and we are scared of them""

So you would prefer to live in fear?

I don't live in fear, and am not actually against the military. But the fact remains that there has not been an act of aggression against the UK that was unprovoked by our own armed forces in many centuries. As for defending the empire we have ultimately lost every conflict engaged in.

So the armed forces have ultimately not achieved anything.

Scientists, nurses, doctors, builders, farmers etc. now they have done a lot for the country.
