Why is it some people really find it difficult to live on their own and some love it. Is it down to personality traits or that we are conditioned that we need to live with people.

Is it whether you where brought up in big or small families?

Are some people just loners.

I can't imagine living with anyone else, the thought of no longer having the freedom to wander around naked, leave it a sty if I want or clean when I want scares me!

By nature were are very sociable, but there are some that like their own company.

I like my own company and the peace of being alone, but I'm so used to being around a lot of people I crave company after a day or two.

I sometimes get scared at night, when I'm on my own and get the dogs up to sleep in my bed.

I've only lived with two men in my life and i found living with someone involves a lot of compromising. But some people are worth it.

I've been living on my own for almost 6 years. I am, probably, now set in my own way that I will no doubt find it difficult to live with someone again, but I would never say never again, because who knows what the future holds. But for now I'm superb as I am.

I think it's more those who rush from one relationship to the next that find it difficult to live alone, as they're not giving themselves chance to find their feet and learn to live with themselves.

im happy in my own company and rarely feel lonely - sometimes my job makes me crave time alone where i dont have to think about anybody else but me - flip side when i have a guest is i do get that caring for me person about and its nice - i was quite ill last winter and for a few days i was in bed unable to do much more than get up for the loo and back to bed - daughter popped in and did the necessary and madde bottles of juice and left nibbles etc and did washing - and i did feel a bit vulnerable whilst i was there but one phone call and she would have been there so not too bad - will get more so as i age i guess

I've never lived with a man ever

Always been independent

As my daughter pointed out to me she don't think I could ever live with one

I must admit I like my own space

I like to do what I want when I want

Besides I don't like sharing my bed

Ive lived with two men. Both for around 5 years. Ive not lived with a man for 22 years and lived totally on my own for 11 years.

I cant remember much about my marriage but i was happy enough living with someone.

I just think age taught me i was happier being on my own in my living space.

sometimes its a bit of an odd feeling knowing you will always live alone.

I lived on my own for 5 years and amnow sharing with a friend. While its fun in the most part having him around all his quirky little ways are driving me insane, he does things in a completely different way to me but seems completely oblivious to it all

I've never lived alone. Can't imagine living alone. I hate my own company and love having people around. *shudders at the thought of ever having to live alone*. I'd be completely useless.

i was an only child and craved company but manage well alone - always wanted a large family but just had kids - not fussed about grandkids arriving or not - so that craving has gone - i guess ive been through all options

Some days the peace and tranquility is what I need...

Other days the man cave can be a bit empty..

But then it's better to be alone than to live dissatisfied with another...

This. 56 and never lived alone.

That said, I do like my own company and often wonder what it'd be like living alone.

I think it's somewhat connected to introversion / extroversion and other personality traits. Plus, let's be honest - some people are just rather less than easy to live with. Their behavior, lack of flexibility or real motivation to change and compromise for other people, means it's better that those people live alone.

I'm from a large family but we had very large home buildings that we lived in on our estate - I prefer to live alone now.

I've loved living on my own in the past. Only reason I'm not at the moment is cos the rent was too much by myself after my ex moved out so I moved back to my parents (I lasted 18 months) but I'm saving to buy a house now. Can't wait to have the privacy again.
