Just a poll to gauge current opinion.

As a lady, do you appreciate when a door is opened for you when you are with your/a man? Or no need, I can open my own.

Are you men in the habit of opening the door for a lady?

Yes but it has nothing to do with gender - was just the way I was brought up.

In some parts, you've got to push him out the way so he knows you are there. Men can be that daft.

And I always say "thank you".

Some people swan through like Lord or Lady Muck and don't so much as grunt. I get all passive aggressive then, smile at them and say "You're welcome".

It makes me feel better

Me too. I also do that when I stop in the car to let people pass me on narrow roads. I hold my hand up to say thanks even if I'm the one letting them past.

I'm quite traditional. I like a man to be a man- open doors, offer to carry bags, offer to drive etc. But I still go Dutch at restaurants or if he pays I will the next time

I do it without a thought

For anyone

It is common courtesy rather than a planned action based on someones gender

Old fashioned values are disappearing and I blame women as much as men.

I like a man to hold a door for me, pull out my chair, carry my shopping, allow me to sit before he does.

But by the same token I can do all those things for myself I just appreciate it when a gentleman does it for me.

All this women's lib crap makes it difficult for a man to know whether he is being offensive if he does these things for a woman.

A bit like the door and ogle your bum thing, we let you sit first so we can peek down your cleavage..! I'll hold a door for anyone , but yes, men, particularly many younger men now have little concept of gentlemanly behaviour. Hey, women wanted equality, you've got it.

I just love a sexy polite man. I am always flirty if a guy opens a door or gives up his seat. Equally I hold doors open for older people, people with pushchairs etc.

I always hold open the door. Carry the shopping. Open the car door. Let a lady sit down before me.

It's not just about being gentlemanly. It's manners. Something that is dying out these days.

Always open it and let lady through first but go through first and hold door for a gent to follow, probably classed as being sexist these days!

No only do i do that but i also offer to help carry heavy bags, child's buggies up or down steps and get items down from high shelves in supermarkets (it helps being 6ft tall and having arms like a gibbon!).

I also always walk on the outside of the pavement when a lady comes in the opposite direction.

The age of chivalry is not dead and i don't give two hoots what the feminists think of it.

I do, however, draw the line at putting my cloak in puddles.
