The Doctors Waiting Room

Im never sure what quite to expect from it, Its up some stairs in my local surgery so when i let them know at reception im here they say 'take a seat upstairs..' On the way up i always wonder how packed and crowded it will be, if its packed then there will be a long waiting time.. if its not then who do i sit next too? Do i pick the old man who looks like he's not had a wash in 6 years, or the young mum with screaming kids??

Decisions decisions :D If there are 2 seats in a row free i normally try and predict who will sit where when more people come up the stairs

The deadly silence and endless sniffles.. then you normally get one person who wants to talk to everyone and asks that stupid question 'you alright?'

What are your experiences of the waiting room?

Thankfully i dont have to go , he comes to me. and my meds are sent every month. the ozzy for bloodtests etc.

When i did go it annoyed me.

Kids running riot, loud chatting etc.

Your normally there as your ill, last thing you need is agro

The waiting room is great round my way, a large seating area with plenty of space to avoid particularly ill looking people/old people smelling of pee, a flat screen telly, and an art gallery of painters' work, the magazines however remain shite as always due to a lack of porn lol

We're lucky that we have our own village surgery. It's very modern, and quite a pleasant place to visit.

Our village isn't very big and so everyone knows everyone else, by sight anyway.

I go every six months for a health check, just to make sure that our family curse hasn't got me yet, lol.

So far, so good

Our surgery is bright and airy and tbh I never spend much time in it as appointment times are pretty accurate, so I tend to arrive 5 mins before my appointment time and maximum I have waited is another 5 mins.

lucky you.. ive waited an extra 50mins before Today was a 30min wait

Our surgery is a credit to the NHS, I can usually get an appointment the same day and if not they take extras at the end of surgery. You can also ring ask to speak with a doctor or nurse. they then ring you back during surgeries. They also do minor operations and some procedures that would normally warrant a hospital visit.

Oh and yes there is quite a queue to join the surgery I beleive

couldnt tell you the last time i was at the dr's, though i spent a fair amount of time in a&e after a bit of a nasty fall in work a while ago, that was annoying, esp with the moaning bastards who have got a cut on there finger whinging that loads have gone through before them, not realising most a&e depts work on a severity scale and not first come first served!

Our surgery is a nightmare to get an appointment "sorry, all appointments gone for today, try again at 8.30 tomorrow morning"

BUT, when you finally get an apppointment (you don't feel that sick anymore but hell took you so long to get it you can't not go) The waiting room is empty !!!!!

Busy, where's all the patients then ??

The mrs's doctors sound very similar to that, im not sure about my doctors ive not been in a few years, theyve moved to a different place since i last went

Ours is lovely but to be honest Id sit anywhere in order to get the wonderful free treatment we all enjoy from our NHS.

Ours is lovely, spacious different waiting areas depending on doctor. You click on a screen on the wall so the doctor knows that you have arrrived or nurse or whoever you are seeing. Lots of nurses all chat to me, sometimes get made a sly cup of coffee if noone much is about, been known to steal their biscuits in the past.

Sometimes there is a bit of a wait. I rarely go to actually see the doctor as my nurse comes out to me and my main appointments are next door at the hospital with the specialist.

My old doctor used to ring me every couple of weeks to see if i was ok. The one time i was in hospital for 6 weeks he rang to speak to me personally every single morning, when he was leaving to go to new zealand he was to upset to tell me so got my mum to do it.

I am slightly biased though as my mum is head receptionist and her best friend of 30 + years and has known me all my life is practice manager

i hate dr and hospitals. ive been at 5 hospital appointents and 1 op/procedure in the last 3 weeks and been to docs/nurse also so if i see anothe waiting rom it will be too soon. lol

i always seem to attract the nutter that wants to talk shit or that sticks of piss!

really dislike sitting in waiting rooms so my first instinct is to ask what the waiting delay is (cos there always is one) then if it is long can take a short walk and return nearer to the moment.
