Big day for a lot of young people tomorrow/today, my son included.

Lives will never be the same for them in many different ways, I don't envy them or the decisions they will have to make.

Although if I could have my time again, I would love to go to uni and get a degree.

Never too late mate, I've done a degree and my masters, finished 4 years ago. It's not that bad going actually.

It seems as if their whole future rests on tomorrow's results but there are always alternatives..

I think it's better for some people to go into higher education as older adults.

I too went back into education as an adult. Unfortunately it was still not for me and reminded me of why I left after high school in the first place

Then again, I did pick a law degree to go back in with...

For me it's more about having that inexperience of youth to take into the whole experience of university and getting back the blank canvas to start filling in.

If you're thinking you might want to go to uni do it. You're never too old.

As for results, my daughter is trying to play it cool, but she isn't fooling me. I'm going to make sure I'm around for when she gets hers.

Thank you, I just hope he gets what he truthfully believes he deserves. He hasn't applied for a course as he doesn't know what he wants to do. I really actually feel for him, not knowing where he wants his future to be.

I had the same with my gcses I wanted to do one thing and didn't get to coz I more or less failed all my gcses but I went back to college as an adult and passed what I needed to and have since done OU courses

Having a piece of paper doesn't mean much but having education is extremely powerful though. Doesn't matter how you do it.

If you don't educate yourself and become a life long learner you will wither and die. University is a fantastic place to learn and figure out what you want to do. I left school at 15 with zero qualifications. I'm due to graduate uni next year with a 1st. Best decision I ever made.

Apply to uni. Do it. Everyone is on their own timeline. Education equals opportunity, connections and ideas.

The world is changing fast.

A good education is never a waste, however I'm far happier working as a carpenter than I ever was using my degree....... I was made to choose far too early and would have been better off working or travelling for a few years rather than going into Uni...

Qualified as a teaching assistant at 51 so there are always opportunities later, but he won't need them he will have passed

This is true. University is over rated and not what people expect!

Since I left.. I've had a few jobs, and now in one where I get trained and receive a degree when I complete my course - without the £9000 per term fee

It varies. My daughter and her husband both went to Uni, got good degrees and loads of debt. Neither have used their degree, are doing well in their own business,and wish they hadn't bothered, other than for the Uni experience. My son declined to go and is also doing well, but without the debt.

I turned down the opportunity years ago and still wonder....

had facebook throw up 5 years ago thing - sat up all night refreshing the ucas site with youngest - done the same previously 3 years before with son - both got amazing results and their uni places - both in jobs they love - youre right it is a big day and can be life changing - good luck to all involved im glad ive done all that

I left school with pretty good GCSE results and went into college. Really glad I never went to uni though.
