"Big day for a lot of young people tomorrow/today, my son included. Lives will never be the same for them in many different ways, I don't envy them or the decisions they will have to make. Although if I could have my time again, I would love to go to uni and get a degree." Never too late mate, I've done a degree and my masters, finished 4 years ago. It's not that bad going actually.

It seems as if their whole future rests on tomorrow's results but there are always alternatives..

"I concur with MtMonkey. I went back into education as an adult also, Its not that bad. " I think it's better for some people to go into higher education as older adults.

He hasn't applied for a course as he doesn't know what he wants to do. I really actually feel for him, not knowing where he wants his future to be.

" Although if I could have my time again, I would love to go to uni and get a degree." Having a piece of paper doesn't mean much but having education is extremely powerful though. Doesn't matter how you do it. If you don't educate yourself and become a life long learner you will wither and die. University is a fantastic place to learn and figure out what you want to do. I left school at 15 with zero qualifications. I'm due to graduate uni next year with a 1st. Best decision I ever made. Apply to uni. Do it. Everyone is on their own timeline. Education equals opportunity, connections and ideas. The world is changing fast.

"It seems as if their whole future rests on tomorrow's results but there are always alternatives.." This is true. University is over rated and not what people expect! Since I left.. I've had a few jobs, and now in one where I get trained and receive a degree when I complete my course - without the £9000 per term fee
