i want to try some open water swimming but need a wetsuit first.

as i am just dipping my toe (

) for now i dont want to spend mega bucks. I am also rather fat so am finding it hard to find womens ones to fit me....do you reckon a guys one would be ok to get as a starter one?

I Was in dawlish last week and the local sainsburys there had some for £15.

In Torquay high street I saw some as low as £8 in the shops that sell everything (like nic-nac stuff)

Worth a peek around if your local to the seafront.cheaper deals to be found to as its nearing the end of so-called summer!

Swimming in a cheap wetsuit is hard as they don't stretch adequately to allow free movement.

If all you want to do is get in the water then you pays your money and takes your choice depending in makes and mm of neoprene or equivalent.

Pay as much as you can and why not go second hand if you're just dipping toe in?

I wouldnt recomend using a cheap wetsuit which are made for splashing around in the water, if you want to open water swim without a wetsuit, you can I know plenty of people that go natural.

If you do want to wetsuit I would suggest a proper swimming wetsuit, you can find plenty of places online like Wiggle that do a variety of wetsuits at differing price points and various sizes.

If you get an idea on size you can always look on eBay as there's always plenty on there.

The best way would be to go into a Tri shop and get sized up properly but that's not always possible.

I'm a Triathlete and bought my new wetsuit earlier this year so if you want to ask any questions, feel free to give me a shout.

You need to make sure it's a swimming wetsuit, the cheap ones are usually for water sports (the none naughty kind!) and these have seams on the shoulders restricting movement.

I got mine off wiggle, it's an Orca, men's size. It's too long in the body but I am too fat for women's

it was rubbing my neck so I got some body glide which didn't seem to help so now I use a snood thing that cyclists wear underneath.

I've not been swimming for ages

really need to go again!

You can get them quite cheaply these days even new so second hand is a cost effective way to get your first one

Buy a decent one second-hand then and sell it on if it's not for you.

I got mine off eBay for £10, good brand, just didn't fit the original buyer, try there and go for a good brand, rather than a cheap one, it needs to be up to the job

(And go one size larger than you usually take).x
