Do you think it would be nice of Admin to grant a forum amnesty to those who have been given a lifetime ban over the years?

there have been some great posters over the years who I really miss, especially the witty banter, I won't mention names as it's against site rules.

If they could grant this but with a proviso that one strike and your out for good would be nice.

What do you lot think?

Everyone deserves a second chance, but admin have to take into account how offended people have been, or how many may have reported, and over what level of time. Also I'm sure they take into account people who may be repeat offenders, stalkers and offensive attitudes.

Admin are volunteers, who on the whole are balanced and worldly in dealing with issues that may arise.

I do feel that if blocked etc, it would be good to know which admin did it, and to be able to deal with the issue, and for a two way conversation between admin and person reported. This could help stop reoffending

I'm pretty sure lifetime forum bans aren't given out lightly and without good reason. I assume the rule breaking has to be persistent and/or of such a level of offensiveness that most other forum users are actually pleased the lifetime ban has been enforced.

If someone has been given a lifetime ban it should stay in place.

That would be different. But, it seems surprising. I've had a timeout due to a genuine misunderstanding and the mods to and fro'd a couple of messages about it and were helpful in discussing it. I think a lifetime ban would have to have some good reason.

I'd say EVERYONE deserves a shot at redemption.. it's never too late to TRY and make amends.

But I'm a sprog member, know fuck all and know none of those people.

Lot's of people already won't post because of nasty replies, so the moderation of threads makes it a bit less of an intimidating place. Also, illegal subjects, adverts, website links etc etc

There are definitely some who received a lifetime ban who shouldn't have in my opinion and some who I say good riddance to bad rubbish to.

I know getting many timeouts leads to a permanent ban but giving one because the last timeout was the equivalent of stealing a Freddo from a shop is petty (to me)

The town's folk scatter..

and everyone gets the fuck out the way so they don't get caught in the crossfire.

This is the Wild West.

No. They've been banned for a reason. Most come back under a new profile anyway.

Whilst i'm sure some miss those who've been banned, there are plenty more who are glad to see the back of them. Usually the ones who were on the receiving end of their unique humour/vitriol.

In my opinion, no one person makes the forums. They are a group effort.
