I've had psoriasis since I was 26. About 3 years ago I developed psoriatic arthritis as well.

Never stopped me getting a meet though

Okay I have experience of meeting a guy with something like this and this is what I'd suggest. If you're planning a meet, be up front and honest. This guy was invited to a group session. Most of his upper body was covered and he hadn't bothered to say anything, so I kept looking wondering what the hell he'd got. It was really off putting. If he's just explained what it was things would have been much better.

Well do you really want to meet the people that jump to conclusions like that rather than speaking to you about it and learning about the condition first if they don't know about it?

No it would it put me off meeting you/someone there is a lot more to a person than a medical condition.

I would however be mindful of how the condition makes someone feel and respect their wishes

Same as above, if I turned up and did not know what it was I'd freak out. However having a sister who suffers with it, I'd be cool. But to avoid awkwardness I'd explain beforehand so they can google.

I get it like that, I found dead sea salt scrubs, hemp cream and sun light helps calm it down.

It takes years for my skin to recover only just become unblotchy from the last time then has an out break.

I assume you are using medication etc. It can be made worse by stress so getting too wound up about it doesn't help -I know that's easy to say.

It's an immune condition so is in no way transferable. My partner suffers from (unrelated) immune conditions & it leads to self doubt about her body on occasions, which psychologically is not good.

I know the world seems to revolve around the "body beautiful" but actually most of us live in the real world & just want to have fun & make the most of life.

My partner hides what she is worried about with sexy clothing (lets face it guys -who doesn't love lingerie?) but still doesn't understand how I can get turned on by her body so much.

The reality is that for most of us, seeing others having a great time is a catalyst for our own enjoyment -so hey I guess that means her fun means my fun!

So get out there and have some fun, explain the situation (as you have done) then get on with enjoying yourself. Life is too short!

Assuming you mean during a flair up. It wouldnt put me off directly. But would be concerned that the person suffering would not exactly be at their most comfortable. That would put me off and id suggest waiting till it had calmed down.

I had bad eczema on my face, my body and my hands a year and half ago, people would stare and ask what it is.

But I still had men interested in me because sometimes the good men look at other sexy features u have and whats on the inside.

I cured it now and have been clear ever since. Apart from dry patches sometimes on my arms.

But I know how u feel OP, it will get better, more u stress the worse it is ...

Hi, I (Dave) have suffered from psoriasis for quite some time now, it flared up about a year ago after a throat infection believe it or not! There are treatments but it takes time to calm down again, use lots of good moisturiser. I too worry about meeting people but find I am the one most concerned about it tbh, you tend to overthink what people may think of you, generally we are all there to have fun and no one cares, but I do share your concerns. In my experience this flare up will calm down eventually and you'll be back to your gorgeous self! Keep you spirits up! X

I had guttate psoriasis earlier this year brought on by a sore throat. I know exactly how you feel OP and I stopped meeting whilst it was at its worst as I felt incredibly self conscious.I looked like I had measles. I was prescribed light therapy treatment and luckily for me it is all but gone.

I'd say be upfront with people as the few people I told about it were not bothered in the least. Good luck x

It's worsened by stress so can be a bit of a vicious circle when dating. Just be upfront with it and they can either accept it or move on - in which case you're better off without them

I have it too hun....everywhere except my face. I felt terrible about it and very self conscious but have not received a single negative remark. My FB doesn't even see it so he says. I am far more chilled about it now than I used to be but I would definitely like it to go....if you find a good cure let me know xx

It is permanent and it is getting worse with age

It's round my eyes, it's round my chin, it's on my hands, my chest, my legs and my feet

Thankfully, I am so pale skinned that I'd give Casper a run for his money and most people wouldn't notice it.

It does mean, however, that I am scared to go out in the sun. A beach holiday is my worst nightmare, because I tan and then feel super self conscious.

In Fab / meet terms it is also all over my cock, balls and the crack of my arse. Like a lot of guys, my natural pigment in that area is darker so it really shows.

The benefit of it is I look like I've anal bleaching - all squeeky clean it is lol

The downside is when I do meet someone new, I am highly conscious of it.

Thankfully, everyone has been really cool about it, no one has ever made a fuss about it (apart from on bell end who refused to accept that it wasn't contagious)

I have met a lot of people over the years and as I said, only one has been arsed.

The bigger problem lies with me, my view of my body and my self consciousness about meeting new people.

I did used to worry about it a lot.

Now I just think 'fuck it. It is what it is'

I think once you get to that level of self acceptance and you control the condition rather than it controlling you, you will be in a much better place.

I hope your recent flare up clears soon and you get back into the swing of things sooner rather than later x

I have had it for over 30 years. In end am on a tablet called apremalast which stops most of it but on my lower legs. Use cetraban after every shower and just once a month steriod cream. This keeps it managable. I am concious of it to the point wouldnt even wear shorts let alone meet. However i think its more my self conciousness of it than others opinions that effect me the most.

Your problem isn't psoriasis. ... It's public ignorance. ..... people fear and judge the unfamilier or what they dont understand. ... As long as it wasn't a painful flare up it wouldn't put me off meeting someone I fancied. ... dont think I could enjoy myself if it was causing someone discomfort or pain.... even then I'd still meet them but just limit it so social or light play on that occasion. .....

I met a bloke who had it, he told me as he was removing his thermal vest. It wouldn't put me off meeting but I would prefer to be told beforehand, as its not very romantic or sexy to be told when you've just got in bed XXX

I also have it but I'm lucky and it's almost invisible, as a few people mentioned it's always worse when I'm stressed, but natural body scrubs are really helpful from my experience

I have it, it's horrible, but no complaints on meets or in clubs. I have tried PUVA twice, acitretin and cyclosporin. None of them worked. I have now been on biologics for about 4 months, and am virtually free of it. My skin looks better than it has for more than 10 years. Before I had it in my scalp, face, trunk, back, arms, legs, feet and hands. Now I only have a few spots, probably less than 2x 50p across my whole body.

girl mate at work has this really badly - the doc has given her a new thing like a gel that goes quite liquid when it goes on and can see it getting better each day after just a couple of weeks - i will try and remember to ask her the name ofit

A member of my family has had it since his teens and now in his late 50s, at one point 80% of the body was covered.. He has to inject himself once a fortnight and its cleared up but stil has to keep up the injections otherwise it returns. Speak to ur gp about it, it can be covered by the nhs too. Psoriasis is made worse thru stress x

I'm going to be totally honest here, if it was bad with big crusty patches and flaking then yes it would put me off!

It's not because I'm ignorant or think I'm going to catch it. It's because I have a phobia of such things (yes it's a real phobia).

My son had a wart on his finger last year and for me that's the worst thing ever. I couldn't hold his hand or have it near me. Treating it was the most horrendous thing in the world for me. I felt absolutely awful about it.

My daughter has a skin condition on her body that looks like brown leopard spots. She's had them for years, finally have an appointment in October to see a dermatologist.

Id never be rude or poke fun, it just wouldn't be for me.

Sadly we would be put off by a major outbreak too , and yes that may be shallow on our part . But to put it simply , the majority of the body being covered would be the focus of attention and rather than just having fun , we would be concerned for the comfort of the sufferer .

I would hazard a guess that the mindset of the person would be focussed on their condition rather than the fun too , so again , not ideal .

It's easy to sit behind a screen and say all kinds of nice things , but the reality of actually meeting up with someone suffering this awful skin condition ( especially when 90% of the body is covered ) would challenge us too much for us to feel comfortable .

So sorry the op is suffering so badly , no doubt stress is a part of the reason and I hope we haven't added to it . Get better soon .

D has Psoriasis and it comes and goes in terms of how angry it is. The majority we've 'met' have made no comment, he's incredibly brave with his ability to ignore it walking around clubs and cap naked.

We've only had a few say "Christ Y, what have you done to him!?" Thinking he's received one hell of a paddling.. Which he laughed off but I know he doesn't have the 'armour' us women have in flattering clothes and make up.

So I do my best to reassure him, knowing he's constantly conscious about it 😕
