I know most film adaptations of books take many liberties with plot and character but this one is just ridiculous. Depps character in the book is middle aged, pudgy, married, doesn't take drugs, and doesn't die in his early 30's. Name and occupation are pretty all they have in common!

There and to the left a bit

Currently struggling and pondering giving up on John Lydon's auto-biog - which is a shame as I was looking forward to reading it but it's just not grabbing me as I thought it would. He has a tendency to waffle on and go off at tangents which make it difficult to concentrate on and am finding it annoying as a result.

Off on hols in a couple of weeks so trying to decide whether to stick with it and take it with me to try and finish it, or read something else instead.

Can't wait for that bit so far its an amazing index of things I need to explore further. I love the chapter where William Gull is giving Netley the history lesson as he rides him around London so he can draw the map. Some fascinating stuff there and a lot to get your teeth into.

I'd recommend anyone that enjoyed the film to check out the book. It's infinitely better and whilst it is complex it's not a difficult to read at all.

it created my love of Hawksmore and when i had the chance took a mate to the church & the ten bells literally next door.

the book is lovely but i think my favourite bit is meeting joseph merrick and mentioning ganesh, just an absolutely beautiful scene.

When you get to the appendices you might find yourself re-reading the book and flicking between the appendices, i did!
