I've just got back from holiday and I'm suffering from post holiday blues at the minute. The best way for me to get around this is by searching and booking next years holiday.

How do you book your holidays and what kind of holidays do you enjoy best.

Do you gather millions of brochures, trawl through and go to the travel agents or do you book online. Do you plan in advance and get exactly what you want but pay for the privilege or do you prefer a last minute don't care where you go surprise.

For the last three years I've been to New York and I love the vibrancy of a diverse city but this year I went to a quiet village on a greek island and I can't believe how much I loved the peace and quiet and relaxed attitude. When you work full time its lovely to lie about and read.

Next year I was set on going to Hong Kong but I've changed my mind and going on a relaxed holiday to either a Greek island or maybe the Caribbean though I don't want to be contained in an holiday resort as I do like a bit of exploring.

Booking my holiday and researching it is almost as much fun as the holiday lol

I get ideas from friends, browse on internet, grab some brochures, _iew trip advisor for holiday write ups. If it not a package/beach holiday I will buy a guide book.

In the end then I book online after checking the offers at travels shops / teletex.

Next year will be Goa if I holiday before or at Easter. If later then maybe Croatia or Cape Verde

Dont really research unless its soemwhere new but knows what i like so do tend to go back.

But do want to egypt sometime and def go back to italy and greece.

I get back off one and cpl days later, go book the next one

I like quiet, unspoilt places. Went to Tossa couple of years ago and loved it, no Brit bars, fast food etc.

Kos is great too, but this year we went to Kusadasi in Turkey and it's the best holiday we've had.

Very few Brits, very traditional town, only ate and drank Turkish food and drink while we were there.

Loved swimming in the Aegean, diving off a boat, lovely warm blue sea.

The local people were so friendly and polite. We will definately be going back

We usually have an idea where we want to go but do get a couple of brochures to check out hotels is the area. Very rarely book through an operator as we like to look at the options available to me.

Will take a peek at trip advisor but take comments with a pinch of salt as one mans meat is another mans poison.

Always get a phrase book as we like to attempt the lingo even if we get it wrong, the effort is always appreciated.

Goa for us next year if the £2 pot keeps growing the way it is. We might fly to Mumbai and get the train down rather than fly straight to the area

I spread my holiday entitlement over the year, as I dislike taking more than a week off, and prefer to have long weekend breaks throughout the year instead of two weeks off in one go.

I have already planned to go camping in France for a week in June 2012 during the Diamond Jubilee week, and 2 weeks in August 2012 to escape the Olympics, and have already booked my leave for 2012/13.

The 2 weeks in August 2012 will be a first for me, as (i) I do not go on holiday while the critters and ankle biters are out and about, and (ii) I have never taken 2 weeks off work since I started to work in 1987!

Oh my dad is a nightmare booking a holiday. Not got a clue about computers old school. Any way I take my laptop round and he has 6 brochures he ticks the ones he likes and then I have to compare them and get him a bargain online and there are millions to choose from and hes not the most patient person to deal with. I got him a good deal though went to Portugal in June and have just booked him up for Gran Canaria for September.

I do go to turkey maybe 3 times a year,as i have a property there,so i have to really,but my fav destination is certainly dubai,a place that has everything including nice weather nearly all year round..

We seem to be booking holidays all the time - well K does anyway lol

Went to Egypt in May, off to the far east in October, got the Maldives booked for Autumn 2012, K is now looking for around Christmas this year, maybe back to the Carribean if we can afford it, and we need a diving fix around April/May next year - no wonder our house needs a lot of work doing on it

Oh and we use a combination of tinternet, specialist package arrangers and the good old fashioned high street travel agent.

we went to the caribean a couple of years ago (dominican republic)and we didnt enjoy it as much as we thought you get put in a complex and advise you not to go off it to dangerouse and have heard most caribean hols are the same stick to turkie or greece you will enjoy it more

I still have a 5-night camping trip in September and a week in Hong Kong in November to go for this year.

The week in HK is not a holiday, it is duty call to spend a week at my mum's as there won't be that many chances to see her alive la di da!

I know exactly what you mean about post holiday blues. Just back from a week in Zante and I already know I'll be going back next year. I booked it with Olympic and will use them again as only them and Thomas Cook have the hotel I want. After that I reckon I'll work my way through a few more Greek islands, although Santorini looks a bit pricey!

I also do a week at easter with my mum, sisters, daughter and nieces, and my mum might be taking me to seville next autumn with any luck.

We stayed at Alykanas which was just perfect for what we wanted, but from the look of it most of Zante is lovely.

Cheers fella .. we went there in May and had a crap time - crap hotel, crap food, we all had bad guts and Mrs Red got bitten by a dog - so we're going again in about 8 weeks or so lol - are we mad ?

To be fair,we went to Turkey last year and it was brill with a capital B - just a bit of shitty luck this time so we're giving it another go

The cape verde islands sound fantastic but I want to go in July and I have heard they have more rain then.

I do love the greek islands. I have been to Santorini and it is gorgeous. I also like Mykonos and Skiathos, the smaller greek islands are gorgeous. My favourite is the biggest greek island Crete. Never to a large resort, Crete has lots of tiny villages which are very traditional. In our apartments we were the only British and they spoke little english. Got by by pointing to things.

I am put off by caribbean islands solely for the fact that most people stay contained in the all inclusive resorts and you do not get a flavour of the country at all. I don't like to be contained and I'd never go on a cruise. I like exploring and I've ended up in some less than savoury neighbourhoods in New York but I'm sensible as I'd keep to Manhattan.

No doubt ill book online but if anyone knows of any greek specialists who cater for the unspoilt greek islands and not places like Malia or Laganas then let me know

Havent had a holiday in nearly 4 years .. have a week off in september maybe i will prize myself out the chair and go to cyprus quite fancy that.. Ohhhh yes loved the holiday programs really gave us an insight into best place to go. especially as a lone traveller

We tend to do a mix, for our main summer holl each year we tend to go to Sandals type places in the Carribean, so book those through a travel agent as there are soo many optional extras and stuff to negotiate.

However, for the long weekend citybreaks and cheap sunshine-craving-fixers, we are happy to book online, and ususally compare a few prices over the course of an evening before going for the best deal.

Our main problenm is that aside from weekend breaks, we can only ever get away in the school holls , and peak season is peak prices!

We have been this year USA i have to go with my family so thay go back to madives . lol Thats where i love going to be a beach bum for 2 weeks and diving .. been about 8 times and to me its heven love some of the little Greece Islands too and i love cornwall off there sep for week padstow and Hollywell x Loads of lovely place to go.

We went to kusadasi as well and found it beautiful but as a single mum with a rather beautiful teenage daughter found visiting the town a nightmare as we could barely walk thru the shops without her being grabbed, no one at our resort had the same experience but they were all couples with kids.

Would go back but only either with a group of people or without the daughter.

In answer to the OP we normally take ages going over brochures and annoying the travel agents to get what we want but as Im now working part time and finances have changed not sure what we will do next year.

I have just come back from my holiday, and im totally exhausted, i always get a bit down after a day or so, but glad of the rest, i always seem to book mine last minute after months of looking through brochures

Do you know at times take me a week or so to get over my holidays .. jet lag USA for over a week .....i could not sleep at night well so felt yukk in day .
