First love

When did you know you first fell in love? I posted two songs earlier that reminded me of my first love.

Have you ever really been in love or is it hard to decide whether it's love or lust?

Is there a time when lust and love overlap and one becomes the other?

I'll start off.

I believe it's all lust and the love grows with time. You can feel deep infatuation but that's often confused with falling in love with someone.

It takes me a long time to open my soul to someone and feel true love for that person.

The French have a name for that instant where you just know. They call it the thunderclap...

It's that point where you just look in someones eyes feel their soul and just know that's where you belong where you want to be and that you want to be a better person because of the person that makes you feel that way.

Other than that... well a gentleman never tells. But I'm here so it never really worked out.

I've been in love. The lust was always there but when it became apparent that I hated being out of his presence and would have done anything for him it became love. He fell in love with me first, I soon followed. We had amazing years together

I've just had a chat with the other half and I think if you fall out of love with someone it can often cloud your memory of the times you were actually in love.

I've been in 'infatuation' with a few people most definitely

I don't know, I thought I was before but it was just lust that was manipulated into something I thought was love.

Now I think I'm realising that real love is so much more than I thought it was. A feeling I can't describe but to look at that other person and see what can only be described as the part of you that's been missing. Sorry it's not a very good description. X

Last time I was in love was 8 years ago and that went on for a decade in total. I've kept away from it since then, hurts too much and ain't worth it.

I know it can be argued but this is the very very short version.

I think love is eternal.

You show the person the real you and they think its awesome, and they show you the real them and you think its awesome. All your little quirks bounce off each other creating chemistry.

I have never been in love because I am single. I got really close a few times, so close I couldnt tell the difference. But eventually as we got to know each other, we figured out as usual we had fallen for who we thought the other person was/could be, and not who they are.

Anyway, here is to the next one, maybe she will be the one.

I've been thinking about this and I'm still at a loss because I've not experienced it. I like the idea of it but I think I'm expecting a fairytale. Maybe that's why I've not experienced it because I'm expecting something that doesn't exist

I'm not sure I can describe this the way I want to but I think love is actually accepting someone for their faults and not trying to change them to what YOU want them to be, so unless you meet someone where you think that annoys me but I can live with it then maybe we haven't yet been in love

i believe love is eternal too, you really never stop loving someone if you ever did love them in the first place. i still love two of my exes even though i'm not with them and don't want to get back with either of them.

i think you need a host of things that make someone lovable; they have qualities you admire, they have vulnerabilities that attract you and you feel you can fulfi, they are very much real and don't hide who they are (although many do hide their true selves in order to be loved because they don't feel lovable). there'll be other things i can't think of right now.

love should be easy though, not as in it will give you an easy life but you should be able to easily give it to someone -no games, no messing about, no bullshit.

I've been in love twice, both girls loved me back, the first was my ex wife and the mother of my kids, sadly she fell out of love many years down the line. I will always love her on some level. The second was my ex gf, sadly tho, by the time I got over my ex wife and realised I was in love with the gf it was too late, she had got tired of waiting and moved on. It's a tricky thing is love, it's a lot about timing, if I met my ex gf a year later id already be over the ex wife and we'd be married by now. Life's a bitch eh.

Romantic love is a funny old thing. It started with the era of chilvary and developed into the Valentine's Day idea with the French courtiers. But ask yourself, who would you die for? That's unconditional love.

Nothing wrong with a bit of romantic love, though. It's the best kind of sickness.

I agree with so many of the comments posted.

For me it's happened twice. My first love and my husband.

I can't actually find the right words to describe it though. All of the above plus more.

Love definitely developed over a long time.

Before then it was definitely lust/infatuation kind of relationship.

Yes of course - lust, infatuation, attachment - they can all be part of a heady mix called love, and there are many kinds of love.

I fall in love easily, I use the word love to refer to the depth of emotion I feel for someone. But that is different from a forever commitment - that is an expression of romantic love, but it's entirely possible to simply love in the here and now without that.

I have loved deeply a number of times but only ever committed to one man.
