I think it's down to the individual and the style of it rather than just the length. From what I can see on your photos I think it would be a shame to loose your locks xx

Keep it for as long as possible.

I often find ladies of a certain age have hair like The Queen.

Try it later, pull a fiver out ya pocket and compare.

I love long hair on a lady, it's one of my things

I'll have long(ish) hair until the day I die, probably.

I have never understood what age has to do with hair length.

I like having long hair. It suits me. Age has nothing to do with it and the only person who ever tells me it should is my mother (and that's only because she always wanted a sleek bob and can't have one because her hair is too curly so she tries to live her ideal hair concept vicariously through me). I currently have long dark hair with blue tips. Hardly befitting a woman of my age some may say but entirely befitting a woman of my personality.

Your hair is beautiful and suits you.

Don't change your style just to suit society's views. If you're gonna change it. Do it for you.

I'm a similar age to you and know what you mean - I have a dread of looking 'mutton' and *think* my longish hair still looks okay, but do worry whether others are looking at me pityingly On the other hand, look at someone like Daphne Selfe - who's almost 90 - and she has beautiful long hair. I guess it boils down to stuff like bone structure and overall appearance.

That is freakin awesome! I always wanted long hair with a blunt cut and blue tips (like, electric blue) when I was younger and my parents wouldn't let me. I haven't seen it on you, but I think the look would really suit you.

I think the days of older ladies only having short hair or a permed style are long gone.

I never see older ladies with longer hair as an issue, there's no way I'm cutting my hair as apart from a disaster in my teens, mine has always been long. That's who I am.

Be yourself, sod what anyone thinks!

I love my long hair. I think the only time I'll be tempted to go for the chop is when I'm grey and cba to dye it anymore (I don't have to at the moment).

You won't have that issue though will you OP? You can't see grey hairs in blond, can you?

i was wondering the same thing about being old and having long hair.

don't think i will ever have it short (or even shoulder length) but once it goes grey all over i will leave it that colour.

I think you should keep your hair how you want it for as long as you want to.

I'm coming up for 61, my hairs long, straight and bottle blonde. If other people think I'm trying to maintain a youthful image and failing I feel the problem is all theirs .

Personally I think it's time we stopped being concerned about this sort of thing. I'm going to be wearing high heels and leather trousers well into my 90s God willing and the creek don't rise

I think whatever your age or hair colour cut and condition are way more important than length.

I'd keep it long as you can. A lot of woman advise others for the short look. Yet can grow it themselves. I think it looks sexier long by far.

Also if you have long hair you can put it up giving the effect of short hair.

it's in good condition, i permed it but that hasn't damaged it (despite me doing it myself, surprised i din't end up bald, lol).

i also like the grey really short cut, not quite a skinhead but not far off. think it really suits some people.

I plan on having long hair till the day they cart me off in a wooden box.

My two regrets in life are selling my home and cutting my hair. I can't afford to get back on the property ladder but i'm bloody well growing my hair again!

I have long hair. It's old hair. It's not young hair.

I have long hair. It's my hair. It's not your hair.

I like long hair.

Who said that long hair should only be for young people ?

If I remove parts of my body just because they are not young i'd have to remove the bloody lot.

I'd never be stupid enough to think that people couldn't tell how old I was just because I have long hair.

No way am I trying to hold on to my youth.

I agree about the short cut. I think short hair looks fabulous on lots of women.

Have you seen the older woman model with very long, grey hair? She looks stunning.

You're brave perming it yourself, I would end up with some very odd curls

I was in a shop recently and a woman said to me "I'd love to buy this top but everyone would see my arms and nobody wants to see old arms"

Its about time we stopped making people feel (well women mostly) that if they're old they have to conform to a certain style for fear it will offend if they don't

It's less than a hundred years since almost all women had long hair whatever their age...what's changed?

yes i've seen her, any model would look stunning though and that's why they choose them. she'd probably look great bald.

i haven't got curls, just very slight waves that gave me some frizz, almost ended up with an afro but after washing it my hair has calmed down a lot haha. loved having an afro though and wish i could have a permanent one.

That's true models will look great with the right lighting, photo shopping etc. I think its within most woman's capability to look realistically great though, we just all need to be a bit less judgemental of each other and a lot more respectful of different styles.
