I volunteered to drive a disable friend to hospital last week. We parked in a disabled bay and displayed his in-date blue badge + clock and all.

Now, there is a fine by PARKING EYE. When we challenged, we were told the badge should have been registered with that particular hospital first.

I have a feeling this is horse dung!!

Seriously, does this smell right?

We've never had to register our blue badge anywhere. And if you were there for instance in an emergency how could you. Don't pay it as it's definitely not correct. Besides it's not legally enforceable. X

sounds like total crap .regularly take my dad to hospital.he's disabled and we use blue badges and never have we had to register with the hospital to park.

definitely fight it and contact the hospital to see what they know about it .

Some hospitals have a screen in the reception, where you have to record your number plate. It's a bit like the pubs and hotels.

That said, if there was insuffient signage, you could contest the ticket...

I think it depends on the parking management company that the hospital uses...

Well, he's gone ahead to register the badge anyway. Interestingly, he was allowed to register up to 3 cars.

What is this world coming to? The squeeze on people these days is unbelievable.

use to go to RUH Bath regular last year and never had issuses with blue badge .sounds new and if that's the case they should of put a note in with the appointment letter so people are aware .

I have seen that system in Chippenham so I get that; but let's face it: disabled parking is disabled parking everywhere unless signs say no parking or unless it blocks a path, an exit/ entrance, or dangerous to do so.

In a hospital situation for instance, I very much doubt if a disabled person will drive into a hospital, park up, then jump on his/her mobility scooter and ride back into town for shopping. I am infuriated. And I feel bad because I drove him to the hospital.

No, disabled parking is not the same everywhere. You need to check the local restrictions. This is explained in the booklet that comes with the badge..

I had a blue badge for my daughter, in Taunton we had to pay for parking, though we could pay in a disabled bay. There is no concessions there for blue badge XXX

south tyneside district hospital runs the same scheme, on the parking notice board it tells you you have 24 hrs to reg a car.

the reason you can register up to 3 cars is the blue badge belongs to the disabled person not the car,

and they might have more than one person taking them for treatment

Normally, when I drive to a car park I check the board to see what I should be paying. When a disabled person drives to a car park, they find a disabled spot, display their badge and get on with business.

So if a business or an organisation varies this generally accepted norm, would it not be a good idea to give sufficient and ample notice?

And just how are the hospitals expected to know when you are going to be ill to be able to write to you beforehand

The blue badge does tell you to check before parking as different rules apply in different areas

That is what is on the parking notices in south tyneside hospital, plus a big publicity push in the local papers, but some just cant be bothered to read and complain when they get fined

Very soon you will have to register your car for different counties in advance of driving there!

I'm inclined to agree with this, I've never had to register anywhere prior to parking using badges. It sounds like a weak effort at enforcing something that's absolute nonsense.

never had the use of disabled badges, but the way i see it is.... by register, i guess it means put your car reg in on the screen in the reception area as you do in loads of hotels now.

reason being, the ANPR cameras cannot see if you have a disabled badge showing or not hence having to register??

just my thoughts on it

You may have a point but would it not be better for them to send that fine with the caveat, " unless you can prove that you have a blue badge etc"?

I shudder to think of the day we all have to register our cars in advance of visiting a place eg, kids' schools, churches, supermarkets, cinemas, stadia, etc.

This will be normal any where that uses ANPR cameras as they don't know you have a blue badge, by registering you are telling them you have one; the computer is not a mind reader (yet)

If you Google the hospital you will find a page explaining the system. Not good for you now, why not include a covering letter explaining the situation to see if they wave the charge. (just make sure the car that has the charge against it is registered on the system)

Disabled people can't just park up and go about their business unless they are familiar with the organisation. At our local hospital disabled people have to pay just like everyone else, they just are lucky enough to park in the disabled spaces closer to the building.
