Do you give your number out?

I personally have had bad experience with this! The way I see it if I was going to meet someone I can still communicate thru this, and I prefer typing on a keyboard, hate texting hurts my arm constantly scrolling and trying to type on a piddly phone keyboard!

The few times I have given my number out have regretted it. A couple of guys have then done a facebook search on me and tried to add me as a friend! I have also made it clear if I give my number its just for occasional texting to arrange meets which guys agree do, then a few seconds after giving them my number "ping, ping ping bloody ping" ha! I can't bear it - 5 texts when one could have sufficed "hi babe" "wubu2?" texting last thing at night and first thing in the morning and all day reminds me of that Destinyc Child song "Bug a Boo" so no I don't give it out now! How do others feel?

We use a 'fab only' phone so have no problem giving it out to the right people if they want to keep in touch.

I don't give my number out or chat on messaging apps. The message system on here works perfectly well enough for me.

Only 3 people on fab have my phone number and one of them is a family member.

In over a year I've only had one person who was insistent I move a chat elsewhere and it was very early on. Google image search revealed their pics were downloaded from a Canadian website and I presumed they were some sort of scanner so I reported them and blocked them.

That's why we find KIK is a good app for this..... it's much easier to communicate with each other plus you can set up group chats with couples and all chat together before meets.

Plus you don't need to give your number out.... just pick a username and start chatting!

No we don't.

If we have met someone we may exchange numbers to share pics taken or to arrange another meet but that's very rare. We usually use fab or Bluetooth.

Yeah, I think messenger type apps are the way to go - I expect most people have a separate email address, so link it to this. Haven't used it, but kik is supposed to be good.

I made the mistake years ago of giving my number out and when things went tits up, he set up a fake profile and handed my number out to everyone, so now I only chat away from fab via kik

I'm sure most people don't realise that your number can link to Facebook, Instagram, snapchat....pretty much every app.

I can't understand the need to have a number, there's a perfectly capable messenger system on here

I used to give it out freely until I had a bad experience through someone I met on fab. I changed my number and now only chat on here or kik

Also to keep in mind that if you have a number and enter it in google search. It will bring up history such as any gumtree ads that are linked with that number. Easy for someone to track you down. Best to get a second phone.

FOr me its about setting the rules, and breaking them means a loss of trust .. and a loss of fun!

I have recently given my number to one very special man because we like to chat, but no one else will get it.

I use kik to communicate, send pics etc. and that seems to work really well.

To be honest not really into Kik either, I don't know if it's my age but I prefer just a decent size message covering a few subjects back and forth between people. I have a few lovely guys I chat to and we message once every couple of days with a substantial message. Not into "chat" I had already told the guy my plans that evening (chilling in front of the tv) no sooner had I given my number then "hi babe up to much?" I also have a cut off time anyway for any kind of internet/phone thats the time I put my pj's on, gather my cats around, paint my toenails, eat junk and watch crap TV! I don't sleep well if i don't have that vital switch off time.

I don't know if the guys have just been thick as pig shit how clear does it have to be as someone said on here breaking rules is a no go! Its scary that people can find out so much about you thru your number!

I had trouble with kik, would get messages from people as apparently I had a similar username.

You can unlink your phone from apps. No trouble with giving my number out thus far.

I've given my number to a small handful of individuals - after lots of messaging - primarily for confirming meet details, and have also been involved in a couple of WhatsApp chats relating to specific club events etc.

No-one's ever yet abused my trust nor become a pest thankfully - I know it's not a failsafe approach but I'm cautious in the first place and tend to think (hope) that people have the same level of respect as I do.

I use KIK a lot. When I don't want to be tempted into logging on fab, it's great. No way of tracing who you are or any personal details plus it cannot be linked to any other apps.

I'd say over half of my friends list are on Kik

We've given ours out to only a few for Whatsapp use. So far we've never received use other than for WhatsApp which we did request. We don't mind the occasional message or photo coming through and I do know that MrsJ really enjoys her occasionally flirt on there with a fella. I enjoy reading the flirtatious messages after she's had a few backwards and forth.

The whole point of a profile based contact is to provide users with oppertunity to communicate with other members without any need to exchange private contact information ....

The site serves as buffer and anyone who supposedly values their privacy but then gives out personal contact information to random strangers must be off their frigging rockers ....

^ you can and thats what I do but it just seems such a shame that people can't respect your wishes, if a guy gave me his number and said only to use it for a planned meet I would respect that.

Am happy to stick to here for the most part as it's easy, convenient and keeps all your messages in one place so works for me.

The only time I will give my number out is if I'm meeting someone for ease of contact on the day in case of emergencies, last minute delays etc - and I wouldn't be meeting someone unless an element of trust was in place

I always give and expect a mobile number before a meet. I use my main number. I don't care whether theirs is disposable or not.

The only issues I've had are with cretins who have no concept of 'antisocial hours.' If they're horny at 4am, they will pick up the phone. Android has the ability to go into a silent mode during certain hours, but some apps (WhatsApp) didn't respect it and message toned anyway. But of late, either WhatsApp has fixed this, or an Android update is forcing third party apps to stay silent now, too. So nothing disturbs me between 11pm and 7am.

I've never had behaviour I couldn't deal with simply by blocking the number. Anything that went further than that? I'm not in any closets, so I would go to the police.

It might bite me on the arse one of these days, but in over 5 years on here, it has yet to happen.

I have had one guy off here add me on Facebook. I changed my Facebook privacy so that you can no longer search for me by my phone number. I have Timeline Review enabled too, so anything posted to my profile or tagging me has to be approved by me before it shows up.

Afternoon all. Just seen this post, it's not just you ladies this happens to I did it one time never again. I do give my number out but only to people I have chatted to for a long time. The time I gave it out to this girl it never ended txt all day and night had to block her.

Put it this way, I stayed with the m8 for as long as possible, upgraded to the S8 and was very disappointed.. Because I'd bought directly from 3 on the web, you can try it out for 2 weeks.. So I sent that back and got the U11.. Absolutely brilliant.. I got a 10% discount for joining their club and then another 20% from the VAT man.. I buy my phones upfront.

Make sure you get the red version, that's the one with the dual sim..

It's not as pretty but it's better. Imo..
