Hiding in the shadows

I'm no longer a teacher, but I remember the holiday feeling.

Looking at my dining table, piled high with assignments & paperwork, and hoping I'd have it all done by September!

Nope!

If I had a penny for every parent, who said lucky you 6 weeks off, I'd be on a yacht in the Bahamas!

And don't start me on the Inset day moaners!

In order to be dismissed they have to have brought the name of their school into disrepute.

I worked with some teachers who spent the whole of the summer holidays at their second homes abroad, or earned extra money by working school holiday clubs. One teacher said he organised his time and work so he could have the holidays to himself.

You're one of the organised ones. I felt for the NQTs who found it a bit of a shock, when they started.

Teaching isn't for everyone, but, if you have your shit together, it can be very rewarding, in many ways.

I find teachers funny creatures, the ones I encountered anyway, when I was at school they were lazy, inefficient, ineffective, power crazy, who went about with the attitude of "who are they going to believe? Me or you?"

Now as an adult I come across some of these teachers still with my kids, and I know there is a stereotype of parents that believe that their children do no wrong, but I have had to go into my daughters school on more than one occasion about teachers attitudes towards my daughter, a top of everything student, who's school record is impeccable, apart from with two teachers, I can't understand why other teachers don't make complaints about them, it's not good to have big headed teachers, giving it the big I am just because of their job title, but these teachers carry on "teaching" year after year, surely it makes good teachers jobs harder

The school I worked at had extra GCSE help during the summer. Another local school ran learning clubs, not activity clubs. Bad behaviour wasn't a problem at my school because the students wanted to be there. Easy money

I didn't know each students background, but the school was a Greater London school and had over 60% on free school meals and 88% EAL students. I wouldn't say decent backgrounds, like in middle class areas. I do know that some students had horrific experiences.
