Can you sleep on a plane?

I'm on one now ready for take off and these lads I'm sat next to are about to get a whole lot of drooling and snoring!

Cake is very tired today

I'm in a cattle mart of a plane where the seats are near 90degrees with no option to recline

Yep - Easy. I can sit down on a plane at Heathrow and by the time we've taxied to the runway and Biggles is powering up I'm away in cloud cookoo land!

No! I couldn't relax I hate flying. Last time I flew was in 1999 to Kenya I stayed awake for the whole flight but slept with my head against the window of the bus/taxi as he carrered down the dirt tracks/roads

My sister flew first class to Florida with her Father and had a panic attack and fainted twice getting on the plane. Then proceeded to take a million snap chats cos she had her own pod thing with a flat bed and a telly and shit!

I've only ever done economy but I have a mild form of narcolepsy and can literally sleep on a chickens lip. So yeah I can sleep on a plane, train, bus!

I'm far too chatty to sleep. Normally people ask to change seats if there are any spare. I sometimes get a row to myself.

Depends how far your going...if it's a short flight then no ...but long haul I'd close my eyes and try and sleep

I'm never able to sleep on planes, even if the company is quiet, the constant mechanical droning noises, the wind noise, rattling around of cabin crew, all prevent decent sleep.

I usually just close my eyes and concentrate on relaxing breathing, and being in a comfortable (for a plane) position.

I sleep on long flights, I stay awake on short.

Flying is awesome during the take-off and landing parts but tedious and dull once you're up there for several hours. Unless you get to see the Aurora Borealis out of the window. That is simply magical.

I get friendly with one of the host or hostess and ensure I have a supply of gin and tonic heading in my direction all flight.

I struggle. Not because I am not relaxed...I hardly notice the takeoff...but I just don't sleep that well.

Even coming back from Barbados in First Class last year I didn't sleep more than 10 mins.

Mind you.... I am a bit big for the beds.

Managed to just once . For probably the only time ever was on a fairly empty flight so could lie across all three seats. Normally have someones bingo wings invading my space or obligatory brat kicking the seat

i find drink plenty of alcohol before boarding and a couple of sleepers soon as seat belt sign comes off helps you sleep

That's what I do on a regular basis and just woke up from one now. Asleep before plane started moving and woke up when it hit the run way on the other end

Unless I am on one where the booze is free (when I take the same attitude as an all you can eat Chinese buffet - Challenge accepted) Then yes quite easily....Luton to Glasgow for work regularly snooze all the way, especially on the earlier flights!

Usually on long haul back from America , but I stay awake late the night before I'm due to fly home so I am tired by the time it comes to get in the plane , I find it helps with the jet lag as well

I did a flight to Australia, 22 hours flying and a 2 hour stop over in Singapore and did the whole trip without even as much as a nap. Think I was actually awake for a total of near as dam it 3 days with the time zone etc.

I fly 40-50 times a year, mostly domestic. On the long haul flights, I get distracted by the plane over the Atlantic Ocean and then can't sleep. However the best airline to sleep with is British Airways...I literally have been given a whole row to myself and no one near to sleep and the cabin crew are super attentive

My problem is in cattle class the legroom means if I am in an aisle seat the trolley keeps hitting my legs and waking me up

I am ok if I am on a window seat as I normally put jumper or hoody and use as a pillow against the side of the plane

Flying up to Glasgow this lass fell asleep on my shoulder

Can't do it. I'm a big chap, not fat, far from it. Due to the size of my legs I have to wedge myself in, which is not comfortable and my shoulders take up a good portion of the seat either side of me. I don't mind flying but just can't get comfortable enough to sleep.

The plan is usually a drink or 2 then sleep, that's until I see which TV shows or movies are showing and I end up watching while everyone around me sleeps, with me trying not to laugh out loud at the funny parts

Often it's the other passengers who do their best to stop you, with bright TV screens flickering and making tons of movement - loo every few minutes etc.

Never been able to sleep on a plane. I have done a 13hr flight and no sleep. I have had 5 hour flights, no sleep.

Too noisy and somewhere there is a always a fkin noisy little brat screaming lol

I guess i am pretty lucky, i can fall asleep pretty much anywhere.... Never put me in the passenger seat in a car, gone in minutes and its the same anywhere.... I love my sleep

I hate the sensation of flying

I don't have a fear of it per se

It is more borderline claustrophobia

So, as soon as the doors shut, that's it, I feel like I am suffocating

I literally have to calm & talk to myself the whole journey

So sleep is simply not a possibility.

Hence why these days, I limit myself to flights of around 2 hours.

Never . Even took a sleeping tablet once and still nothing .

I flew indirect to Tanzania (cheaper flights at Christmas ) . Left the house for airport at 11pm Wednesday arrived in Tanzania 6am Friday (4am U.K.) and not a minutes sleep. Felt like death

Grr that really annoys me, especially if it's on a silly o'clock Sleazy Jet flight and you've been up since 3am to get to the airport
