Last night I was eating in a nice Hotel and a mature couple sat on the next table. Over hearing the conversation it was obvious it was a first date. His topic of conversation was at best dull. Anyway they finished the meal and the bill arrived. He pulled a purse out and said to the lady should we go halves. This she did no problem.Having bored her to death she then had to pay for it. Double whammy. She smiled at me on the way out.Dont think a second date is on the cards for this fella.

I normally pay even when i know it isnt going any where unless the women was rude or generally not nice then fuck her she can pay half. On bit of a side note I hate when you for dinner with a group of friends and the bill comes out and people start going through the bill picking what they had just divide the amount by how many people there is and that's what you pay shouldn't be picky with your friends over some one having an extra drink or a pudding.

I would never expect a date to pay for my meal, I expect to pay my fair share. If a guy insists I will let him because I don't want to offend but will insist it's my turn next time.

It's the same when I go to swinging clubs with my FB. I won't let him pay every time and it's become a bit of a game to see who can hand over the cash first

It's chivalrous to offer. But many ladies insist on paying their share. It can be insulting (to some) if the man continues to insist.

For the guy the OP refers to above to demand they go halves (assuming this wasn't all discussed and agreed in advance, of course, none of us know!) as soon as the bill arrived wasn't very chivalrous I agree!

Just found this online from a celebrity news site.

Do they really have to pay for their meal, though?

Well, kind of. We’re told each dater is given £25 before arriving for their dinner – so that’s £50 per couple. ‘When you see the blokes offering to foot the bill at the end, bear in mind most of it’s already been paid for, as the set menu at the Chop House is £25 for three courses,’ says our insider. ‘Obviously, that doesn’t include cocktails at £8 a pop.’

But herein lies the problem, your reason for paying is not to be equal. It's to avoid obligation. A man who pays the full bill should be a gentleman. A gentleman does not put obligations on woman. Someone who pays the bill to get sex is a manipulator and should be called out as such.

It isn't, it is because I just don't feel comfortable with it. I don't need someone else to pay for me and if I was ok with it I wouldn't feel I owed them anything other than the same in return, surely that is just manners? Especially if it's someone I don't know. So if I am not sure if I will be seeing them again, regardless of male or female btw, then I pay for myself. I am not sure why this is a problem...I just like to pay my way

I always offer to go halves but it's nice to be treated occasionally. But I would rather a guy go out his way to open doors for me etc. I like traditional and I'm not bothered about equality, I like to be made to feel special. However if a guy pays once I would offer to pay the next time

That really annoys me. The woman is there by choice, she knows the meal will need to be paid for but expects the guy to pay . It's nice to see that most women offer anyway though.
