I have to have a high protein diet. But because of restrictions on portion sizes I can actually manage to eat I struggle to get the recommended amount in. So protein shakes are a good way to achieve that. Though I know it's not the same for everyone x

I dont use protein shakes, cos they are all spiked. I am on a high protein muscle diet. I eat 1.5g of protein per pound of body weight, it is about 250 to 260g of protein a day, lots of chicken and tuna

Yes, it is. I spread my meals out and I eat lots per meal, when I eat the chicken meals. I have about 300g per meal, 3 oz aint to bad either. I sometimes feel I need more protein, but too much is not good for the liver.

I like tuna and sometimes I do a tuna pasta bake in the oven, it is tasty, or put some on a pizza with pineapples

Ah I struggle with carbs, I can only eat a small amount and don't do bread. So pasta bake is one serving spoon full and I don't eat pizza. Food isn't a joy anymore, I eat to live. Except for lemon curd tarts lol x

No you could tell my surgical team that. I just have to follow a strictish diet. High protein low carb and fat. My doctor probably doesn't understand it anyway. It's the specialist team that I see that dictates it. X

The one that doesn't contain added protein.

But if you insist on having it, add vegetable protein, not whey. Pea protein isolate for example.

Or hemp, but it's very bitter.

I was given all sorts of dietary advice when suffering cancer, from 28lbs of carrots per day, through apricot kernels and many other things mostly they centered around toxic levels of vitamin A, effectively giving an unmeasured chemotherapy.

But coming through that there were many fitness diets that all on paper looked good. But all were short term. The missing ingredient is time, not months but years.

Must admit I fell for a few, but over time realised I was fooling myself.

I survived not because I am fit, but because I am strong. To be strong you need to be able to survive on whatever fuel is available.

Supplements are like tuning an engine to race Performance, good for the race, but doesn't last without a rebuild.

who was telling you to eat that stuff? yep, i've always been told supplements aren't the best way to get what your body needs because they're synthetic but if necessary then use them short term. they did work well for my son who was infested with warts and veruccas (probably had over 100 of them on his fingers and feet) and got rid of all of those for him. doubt it was coincidence as he'd had them nearly 10 yrs and the vitamins were a last resort.

but, i more meant you only need to eat what your cells are made of or what they use to replace themselves.

they know how your cells replicate and what they use in the process so i wouldn't be surprised if someone has already made a diet based on that. never heard of it though.

and not sure how that diet would relate to cancer cells either, seeing as they're damaged cells but made of the same proteins and just damaged DNA. i think they are, i've only got a basic knowledge of cancer cells.

"who was telling you to eat that stuff?"

Sorry missed your question... it was the well meaning Internet educated. These things often have actual psudo science behind them, e.g. the massive overdose of Vitamin A, which destroys cells, which is exactly how chemotherapy, radiotherapy and even surgery in its own way works. So it can cure cancer, difference being medical supervision, doseage, and the steroids to quickly regrow cells. Fish and rice are the key diet of a small island off of Japan where Cancer rates are way below national averages... But it's also a small island contained gene pool and nobody there has any relations that were near the bombs...

The rise of the connected world means that half science proliferates. A good example would be your son, the suplements worked, fact. But will they work for all? Probably not, and in an ideal world tests should have been done to find out what exactly was missing and why.

Bioavailability is something thats massively important when looking at supliments like vitamins, if something has 100% of your dad but you only absorb 10% of it due to competing molcules/jus shit quality ones means its worthless

And of course companies are not required to publish specifically what form they put everything in or its bio availablity.

For protien i jist buy whatever is going cheap in bulk.

Currently thats myprotien impact when isolate.

In the past i liked myprotien "total protien" blend a good mix of whey, casein, egg and flax seed.

But it's very rare i actually have one as i only have one after the gym and I've been about twice this year

Unflavoured shake mix with nut milk (no sniggering at the back), a spoon full of whole earth peanut butter, avocado (frozen), mixed berries, banana and flax and hemp seeds.

I take shortly after getting back from either a long fast training ride or from the gym.

I have the unflavoured whey isolate, and I make a shake up with whatever seems tasty at the time - currently milk and a banana. I buy it because it's a cheap way to boost my protein - meat is expensive.

It is processed, but so are lots of things... Cheese, butter, bread, instant coffee.. I'm familiar with the raw product though, and I guess a lot of people aren't, which makes it seem "unnatural".

Whilst it's true that we can survive without Animal Meat(is there another sort?) We are also quite capable of eating it... and it tastes YUMMY

I have no issues with people enduring a vegetarian diet, but I sometimes wonder if vegetarianism is a sect of some religion... it seems mandatory to tell everyone else that their diet is evil and try to convert us.

Protein shakes after the gym is for the gullible, it doesn't make a difference. Just clever marketing to get people hooked on the idea of taking protein directly after workouts.

I'm not slagging anyone off. A healthy diet is essential to maintain a strong and healthy body. A healthy diet free of animal products provides that in abundance over what you are advocating. Surely the end goal is to achieve a fit healthy body. That's why i am suggesting one free of animal products. If anyone is slagging anybody. I'm getting it for my opinion because it is a minority one on this thread. Not that I mind. Its like water of a ducks back for me.

"It's one thing to know something to be true but for others to believe, you must first show them proof. For until you do, it's just another story"

Unfortunately I cannot sit down and show you proof. So all I can suggest is to do some research of your own.

There's always one that knows everything.

With My recipe you could swap the animal products for soya or veggie based ingredients and it would still have the same effect. And had everything you need to repair and recover. Trust me I have some knowledge. And mate you look like shit!

Are you serious lol

I was simply saying powders don't suit me and egg whites are a better alternative

Im glad you think I look shit. The women I meet don't "

Not you dude apologies. My meat product hating friend above

"I'm not slagging anyone off.

Seriously dude, it's not more healthy to cut all animal products out of our diets, that would mean no milk, no yogurt, a hell of a lot of stuff would have to go. A balanced diet is the best diet to consume. So you are saying it's bad for us to eat meat. Well all our fruit and veg have been treated with fuck knows what pesticides these days, so they are just as bad as meat. XXX

"No meat is required in our diets. We can get plenty of protein from a whole food plant based diet. In fact animal meat is detrimental to our health.

No it isn't. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

If it is harmful...why have we been omnivores throughout our existence?

Meat is a lot harder to catch than plants, after all.

"

So we could shorten our lives from 900 years to 80.

"What with the other thread I wonder, do people not just eat a balanced diet these days?

coz they'd rather eat processed meat and grass. with added vitamins.

Steak is nature's way of enabling us to eat sunshine.

High levels of ANY one food type will do you harm, variety of diet is the key.

what if i'm on a budget and can only afford tins of beans.

You will fart, a lot

i do that anyway. but i was asking 'for a friend' so i will pass that on.

i'm learning about cells and what they're made up of so working out a diet based on that. you are what you eat and all that jazz.

"If it fits your macros" :p"

had to google that. didn't know what it meant but now i know there is a diet based on what your body uses.

"who was telling you to eat that stuff?

think i've heard of that island, they also eat 20% less food than they feel is necessary. it's called okinawa?

i think my son has immune deficiencies but the doctors haven't looked into that so i don't know, but you're right the same thing won't work for everyone.

thanks for replying, i look up stuff on the internet and some of it you can tell is bunkum but some i do think is genuine but really i don't know all the facts, like i didn't know that about the dosage and needed to use steroids so would have only got half advice and maybe taken it, and probably give it to (but not much now).
