Found this...

I do so hope that I'm still alive in 2040 when all new cars will be electric.

I want to see the chaos and Health & Safety issues when people who don't have a garage or off road parking have cables strewn across the pavements (and maybe half a mile down the road to where the nearest parking space was when they came home).

Also where is all of the extra electricity going to come from as, from what we're told, the power stations and the national grid are already running to full capacity?

Will the yobs of the time be cutting and knicking all of these copper cables, and where is all of the copper needed to make them going to come from? And come to that, where is the lithium needed for the batteries going to come from? And what about the environmental damage that is caused by copper and lithium mining?

What will happen when 100s of people get stuck on the motorway in winter when the (less efficient in cold weather) batteries are unexpectedly flattened by heaters and lights? Will the AA/RAC have electric vehicles too? If so how will they cope with towing 3 ton cars to the nearest (available) chargers?

What happens if the chargers are all in use when you get to where you're going and don't have enough power to get back home? Will there be queues of people pushing their 3 ton battery cars looking for an unoccupied charging space? Will there be 'charging rage' with people fighting in the streets over who's turn it is next?

I do so hope that I'm still alive in 2040 when all new cars will be electric...

I've often thought about how many more pedestrians will get hit by near silent vehicles when they don't look before crossing the road and don't have the safety net of listening out for a loud combustion engine.

People keep talking about current problems like as if they will still be there in 23 years. I don't get that type of thinking.

And totally agree with previous threads... how are we supposed to charge a car in mid wales?? Or across the moars?

theer are designers who are working on frictionless environments for personal vehicles to operate in .... the idea is that tiny amounts of energy is all that would be needed to propel a vehicle of long distances

Average cell in electric car costs £8000, you do the maths.

I worry about how we're going to dispose of all the batteries used in electric cars (and other "greener" energy sources). Batteries are horrible for the environment.

They've already got teams of audio engineers working on producing sounds for electric cars for that very reason. If I could drive I think I'd programme in my own TIE fighter style noise. Just need to pitch shift and fuck around with a recording of an elephant and it's done.

It’s called being human..thankfully while the majority of the human race struggle naturally it’s change and the evolution - everynow and then the odd individual innovates and moves us out of our caves. 1903 first controlled powered flight...by 1914 we we using them to fight wars, by 1944 we had rockets that could reach space, 1969 we landed men on the moon...do people really think that electric cars, batteries, or even electric cars the only option by then...it may not be Jan the 1st 2040 - but by setting a target certainly assists in making it happen faster and focusing the mind wars are good at that to...think back 20 years(if you old enough) and think what didn’t exist or exist in the way it does now? Just a bit more than 20 years ago, you wouldn’t be reading this...and certainly not without your computer being plugged into a phone line...you’d be watching porn on a video tape...even the concept of watching something on a dvd or blu Ray is to many a made idea(I don’t own either now) the key is not to look at why it won’t work, or even how it could work...but how we could do it totally different, and make it happen...I drive a petrol car that drinks the stuff...but you know what a nice 918 I’d happily have tomorrow that not only use less fuel, do less damage to environment and health, but would out perform my car in a flash...why am I not going to be excited about when 918 aren’t for the rich but are in fact old hat and out of date. My view is, what I got to wait till 2040 for the future?...let’s have it now!

And what about aircraft ? It's all totally impractical at this moment in time, and for the foreseeable future. I couldn't agree more.
