i glanced over the pub meds and the study was carried out from 1930s to the 1990s. there is some allusion to methodological bias, there were no median stats in the papers and the older studies only had sperm count and nothing else in their information. and that there is no info on how masturbation or coital frequency has changed over the years. but that despite this they do believe the info reflects a true biological phenomenon...so i'm not much wiser either.

maybe coz the planet is so overpopulated sperms are just evolving to make it harder to get people pregnant? wonder what the quality of eggs are like and if they're going the same way.

that's just it though, over the period they were studying the health of people had not declined. it's only this year they've said that people from the 1970s onwards are unhealthier (ironic we can't claim pensions until we're older though). so that ignores like 40 years of studies where sperm has declinedin that time frame.

no idea, like the study is just over 160 pages so i haven't read it all. just how they collected the evidence. and it said it could be biased.

What about the GMO foods that are proven to be responsible for higher rates of sterility, infant mortality and birth defects. Yet it is not required for food to be labelled GM foods in the US. Thankfully at the moment it is in the EU. However, food from animals fed GM animal feed is not required to be labelled as such. Nor is food additives or flavouring produced from GMO's. Not finished there...food produced with help from a GM enzyme isn't either. That includes some breads and cheeses. Scary thought. Do we really know what we are munching on every day?

Seriously though, from an efficiency point of view, it would make sense if we evolved to just deliver a single sperm at a time. It's a massive waste injecting billions into every woman we try to impregnate. Even better, we should evolve to know when we're having a blowjob, handjob, anal, or wearing a condom.... and not relinquish any sperm on these occasions.
