*Warning* Local Phone Scam

I read about this a while ago when it seemed to be circulating within the Manchester area but now it is up here.

The scam is opening your security on your computer and giving information that will compromise your personal details by a back door in your network.

It seems to be once again an Indian (sounding) couple pretending to be from either System support or your Anti-Virus software firm telling you that your computer is infected. It'll either be a man OR a woman talking to you in a strong Indian accent, he (lets assume it’s the bloke that your talking to) will be polite and ask for Mr *Insert your last name here* and tell you that your computer is infected and he'll give you baby steps on how to *secure* it (for himself).

Don't fall for it. It seems to be in the North East area (Stockton and surrounding areas today) and it'll be an 'Unavailable' number that contacts you.

I had my fun by picking up on it straight away and keeping him on the phone for 20 minutes then said I had a Mac instead of Windows (they assume you have Windows). This didn't faze him so I just said flat out 'Look I know it’s a scam that started out in Manchester', then he hung up :P just letting people know in case you think it’s genuine. I'm letting my elderly neighbours know now, because that’s who they're hoping to catch. I hope the scammers rot in hell.

Have a nice day everyone

all over the place

another old chestnut doing the rounds is the the broken car scam ,a respectable looking woman ,knocks at door and says her car has broken down ,she asks if she pays for call can she use your phone as her mobile has run out of power.

she then makes call to overseas premium number normally £300 per minute ,giving it yes dear no dear and asking for name of road your on ,she then say thanks love see you soon hangs up ,gives you the pound for call and says a big thankyou...gets in car and drives off .

you get next bill and they of course are long gone with the money as the telecoms company have to pay overseas premium lines and can not stop payment

The guy that called me had his number as *unavailable* and shit himself when I told him I knew what he was up to. Might be a different one?

"

just ask your self how the feck does the software company i use for security know my phone number? you dont give it to them when you buy the software do you?

So its very unlikely they going to call you

Plus its unheard of for them to call any customer.

That has to make you think its a scam surely
