Campagnolo or Shimano?

There's been a few bike posts of recent, so for the Vello enthusiast, what group set would you choose if you were building your own cycle from just the frameset

Ah you youngsters....with ya fancy idea's.....wot ya really need is good old fashioned Sturmey Archer,,,,, now there's some proper kit!!!

when I was a kid you had to have Campagnoli. Shimono didn't become popular till the 90's really, well not will us anyway.

I've got an old Carlton 10 racer with Campags, and a Peugot Tourmalet with Shimonos

fixed wheel... no brake ;o)

no seriously I run ultegra and campy together, and another that I plan to run campy with dura-ace. I don't see anything in it really unless you really must have carbon cranks, and 11 speed gears...

to be honest whatever gets you from A to B with the best reliability... campagnolo will get you the smallest spare part for your kit while shimano will say throw it away and fit a whole new mech... for example

We both run Campag. I (2wheels) have ridden it for 20 plus years on all but mountain bikes and probably always will. Not convinced by 11 speed but it looks netter than Shimano and this all that matters.

I have Shimano on the mountain bikes and a hybrid mix of SRAM and Shimano on my road/touring bike. I suppose if i were ever to go down the route of a spangly carbon-framed racing whippet i'd be tempted to go for Campag just for the bling factor... then again, Dura Ace is lovely

Actually, i'm never that bothered about groupsets, i've got full XT on one bike and SLX with a SRAM cassette on the big bike and i can't really say i notice much difference. If it works without you noticing then it's fine with me!

Now, if i could just get to the bottom of suspension fettling....

i remember riding my trackbike down to track league at salford park b'ham and having to fit front brake on,used it for 10 mile tme trials too!.

Used to do that myself. My best TT times were done on fixed. Also used it for general riding at times. Longest ride on fixed was 56 miles along the Snowdonia section of the A5.

I do some local tt's on my trackbike. Standard wheels no aero kit. I'm not winning friends amongst the local testers by getting within 2 1/2 minutes of the winner and beating a fair few of them who have all the gear!

Sram for my Specialized MTB. Although many choose Shimano over Compag due to it's supposed ability to cope better with our weather and elements.
