anybody here know anything about professional massage techniques? i need to relax big time! anybody reckon they can reccommend a type of session?

As a qualified masseuse it would depend on what you wanted to get out of it and what (if any) problem areas you had before suggesting a particular sort of massage. Pick a clinic out of the local phone book and speak to them - or a massage parlour if you're looking for 'extras'

Me too.

Check out aromatherapy massage. I've found that to be the most relaxing. Unlike swedish massage, every time I perform a aroma massage the client has fallen asleep.

google it. An aromatherapy massage would be a massage with essential oils in the carrier oil - usually chosen to help aid/ relieve any problems the recipient has. Should be performed by qualified aromatherapists for safety reasons

Similar to swedish massage but more relaxing. While swedish is invigorating & uses a lot of rapid, quick movements such as hacking, aroma massage does not. It works more on your inner systems rather than muscular, though it does work on your muscles too. A lot more stroking movements are used. It also tends to last longer. Swedish approx 60mins, aroma can take as long as 180mins depending on what you want out of it.

An individual blend of oils will be mixed for you alone. The essential oils seep into your bloodstream & go onto effect you for up to a week after the initial massage.

Almost anything can be treated from mental/emotional problems such as stress to skin, circulation, joint problems etc , the list is endless.

It is a bit pricey (I spent more money on 6 oils than I did for all the books & other equipment I needed for my training. Google Rose essential oil to get an idea)

Look for you local college as students are always looking for case studies & it costs a fraction of the price. Then if you like it, pay for a professional.

You can also go for a pre-blended aromatherapy massage, where the oils are not mixed for you alone. Doesn't have such an effect as individually blended oil, but it's cheaper.

sounds good! with my job i could do with some r & r. iv always had back pains but im a big sufferer of stress so thanks a lot, i will definately follow your advice!

I had an indian head massage this afternoon and that has destressed me a lot.

If you are looking for a full body i also second that aromatherapy message might be a better de-stresser than a swedish massage, as a swedish usually leaves me feeling invigorated rather than relaxed.
