This is based on my own family during. Ww2. My nan was born to a single mother with about 11 children older than her. My nans father had died after she was conceived and before she was born.

Before the war, nan had given birth to a child at 17 and then during the war given birth to another child at 22 but moved in to a very posh house in London,

Now I don't know the exact reason why she moved from probably a poor family to this amazing house, but her sister done the same. Well I kinda can guess and it was due to some of the company she was keeping

For me as a social historian it's amazing to see, how given money and opertunity that someone got to change so severely there social standing but then by the time my father was born to drop back down to working class

I was wondering if anyone either on dabs or family has had such a massive change in social mobility

most of my family are working class but one of my aunties was quite superficial and she only went for men with money. it did her alright, she tended to waste money on buying really expensive things she didn't even need though.

she never did anything with her privilege, like socially she wasn't doing much. she just liked money.

During the war a lot of people were moved into big houses in the country side to avoid the air raids

ive spent some time trying to piece together my family time, but since my family are descendants of illegal immigrants it's been very difficult

ooh on the other side of that it used to be really easy to make money cash in hand if you had the right network. another family member managed to pay off 2 mortgages while claiming benefits.

so went from working and living in a council house to unemployed and owning two homes outright. they also managed to eventually raise the money to become a slumlord also, owning (but owing on) 4 other properties, then selling them off at a profit coz they couldn't be arsed to be a slumlord any more.

Depends what you really mean though. I think people confuse class with money. It's not a perfect correlation. When a Neanderthal suddenly gets paid a premiership footballers salary, that doesn't make them high class.
