There is a media blackout at the moment...but the word is out and a lot of football supporters have started defending their own patches..

300 Odd Millwall supporters in Eltham (pictures on facebook apparently) and 10th Worldwide on Twitter..

100 Odd in Enfield..

Plus other goings on in East and West London..its a shame its come to this but the message seems to have got across...these scum take great delight in goading the police and running up and down...they wont be so quick goading a bunch of very up for it football supporters..

And the police are pretty cool about it too by the sounds of things..

The end justifies the means...

There was something on CNN UK but it might have been taken down now..

Great news.

Not much use though when you're near Halifax Town, average attendance 2,000 with 90% of them over 60.

"havent seen any media blackout on my tele"

Not a blackout, but BBC crews were attacked in Salford today, and only 10 minutes ago, "live" on SKY News, a film crew and presenter had to pack up smartish into their vehicle as they were beginning to be surrounded by gangs of hoodies.

Other media personnel have had cameras smashed or have been beaten up as rioters realise that film images could be used to identify them.

oh it's true, they've been all over the news. groups in communities guarding their shops and streets. They figure that they will be able to get the message throo to the looters that the police cant.

The problem is that if they were to confront a gang it could cause so much more work for the police!

Sinister as it sounds too, a witness on SKY News tonight said he saw older guys on mobile phones orchestrating all the movements of the rioters.

This isn't a "spur of the moment" action by locals; it is being organised!

with regard to media black out, I think they are trying not to highlight every area hit, to try and contain outbursts in surrounding areas without giving opportunists encouragement to join in and create larger groups or rubber neckers to look on, which will only hinder the police rather than help.

Can't help facebook and twitter but we should agree that what is said in the forum stays in the forum maybe

They are not all hooligans...what about the Sikhs etc defending there temples?

Or is that 'different'?

Its been happening all over London, and rivalries have put put aside by the looks of it with group of oposing supporters 'firming up' as they cal it..

It certainly seemed to work in Eltham, the police warned shopkeepers that they were going to be hit..the word spread and people turned up to defend..the looters kept an eye on them, but stayed well away...knowing full well it wouldnt just be a 'game' of cat and mouse like they played with the police on Monday.

Dont beleive everything you read in the Sun about football supporters...Millwall in particular..I know a few and they are just regular guys with a sense of whats right and wrong.

Newcastle and Gateshead

let me use the comparison between 2 sets of people.... the one in southall and the one in eltham

the one in southall was out on monday night... and was out last night.. and was a truely organised local event....

even the one in Dalston, which has now become the stuff of urban legend were out on monday and they forced looters back... and were out again last night... that was community led...

the one on roman road on monday night was led by the community.. and again forced back looters... we out again last night.....

the one of green street on monday night even turned down offers of assistance from the police, and told then to get to places where more urgent assistance was needed.....

the one in Eltham was a lot, lot more sinister.... because of who was behind it.. because who was trumpeting that particular one, and what was being said by those people.... I am not surprised they weren't allowed to march to woolwich, they may well have been calling themselves "millwall supporters" but I also know from people in south east london that they were being called other things.... and the stuff they were chanting was vile and was more likely to inflame the situation if the police wasn't there.....

i am all for community action like at clapham junction yesterday.... but what happened in eltham was more of a "hijack" of a situation of certain peoples political gain.....

I am guessing people are hearing their news from lots of sources and if they are printed/ reported in lots of ways the same information then what difference it makes where you get it from, it could still be all lies or the truth.

Mine was from the Sky news which reported that it was a sinister body using Ealing as a platform.

Anyways, we comes out of theatre and no buses and we waits and waits and still no buses....

The young lad being mugged by his "Samaritans" was sad: but it didn't surprise me if that makes sense. It was the sight of people with bottles of booze, cigarettes, designer clothes, trainers etc, obviously out for themselves destroying their already depressed neighbourhood that sickened me, but in the midst of that a young lad with a half full hand basket of food saddened me.

I'm not condoning his actions in any way: I just found it sad.

Looking at the demographic for those in court so far, the riots cannot be all about poverty! A teacher, a Youth Worker, a University Student, a Fork Lift Driver and a guy who WAS going into the army in a short time.

It will be interesting to see the full list and just how many "decent" people were involved! A news report said that most who went through the system are of previously good character!!

Makes it a "Shopping Riot" rather than a political one, IMHO!

I wouldnt give that idiot the time of day Fab..

As for the clowns doing the chanting they were very misguided if they thought I was only blacks doing the looting...now Im going to stick my neck on the block here and say on the first day of the looting most, but definately not all, of the looters appeared to be black...which is worrying given the 85-15% white, non white split in that area...But Monday saw a different ratio...close on 50/50 looting...

Im sorry if seems an unfair comment, but to justify it take a look at all the community leaders and youth workers etc the media are inter_iewing...

Its obvious the media have been briefed on what to say and how to say it...a guy reporting on the riots Monday saw a car drive past...he said something like 'there goes another car full of er, er..(silence)...youths'

Maybe a gagging order is a good thing maybe it isnt...

But who cares about the colour...the point is they are ALL vermin thieves..with no justification whatsoever.

And hearing people like Dianne Abbot and Red Ken trying to score points scikens me to the bone..

The point of this long drawn out reply?...brush taring...all white male football supporters shouldnt be tarred with the same brush...and neither should all black people..cos it was fantastic to see a few of them helping with the clearing up operations...I bet Prick Griffin carefully overlooks that fact.

(and I have typed the word 'Criminality' once!!

"Looking at the demographic for those in court so far, the riots cannot be all about poverty!

really well thats interesting i thought it was all disenfranchised youth that had no future

oh well it looks like the majority of us were right then when we said it was actually just theiving scum huh

When we have the highest youth unemployment we have had for over 15 years and the Youth Service in London having just been cut by 7 million pounds in the last 2 months. What else did central govnt think was going to happen? The estimated cost of the rioting in London to date is 9 million would it not have been sensible to pay the youth service to support these young people into more positive pursuits?

We have recently had university fees triple in England and Northern Ireland, educational Maintaince grants to students from poor backgronds cut.. it was a time bomb waiting to happen by the not so dynamic duo of Clegg and Cameron

I am clearly not supporting or condoning the behaviour of the rioters... But hot summer nights where kids are on the streets full of energy.....whjat else did they expect.

Curiously...one of the country`s leading police officers warned about civil unrest..

He`d be Derek Barnett, the president of the Police Superintendents Asc..

Given we`re facing the biggest squeeze on living standards since the 1920`s, its hardly a revelation to some that this will lead to " dissatisfaction, social and industrial unrest" ( his words not mine )

And things fiscally are gona get a whole lot worse yet..

History tells the tale...recession and unrest...it ain`t rocket science..

The parents hold the greater responsibility...

Generational dysfunction...

Take back the power from the kids and reintroduce them to boundaries and discipline..

I dont except one word of that Im affriad...

One of the scum in court today was a primary school teacher aged 31!

Yes there is high unemployerment amoung todays youth..and its very difficult them finding work...what hasnt helped is the new NMW for young people...ok employers cant take on cheap labour anymore..so what do they do?..dont take them on at all!..or lay the ones who they have got off, claiming they cant afford to keep them because they are not covering enough work to justify their wage..

Now I do think that this really is a Government problem..more help should go directly to employers maybe.

Trainees on some local authority run schemes still take home 50 quid a week..I was on that 30 fucking years ago!

This riot is about one thing and one thing only..personal greed

Chav quote from today part 1

'Iss cos day put up da university fees I fink' (as if some rich kid done him out of a place!!)

Chav quote part 2

'This is a protest against the rich'...when the inter_iewer pointed out that shopkeepers and ordinary people had lost their homes and livelihoods the chav came back with 'well their Rich aint they!'

Yeh their rich cos they fucking work for a living instead of stealing and mugging...

We have made it too easy for a lot of these kids, and there is no deterrent not to break the law..what with limp wristed out of touch judges giving them soft sentences or letting them off completely..

Yeh blame the current government..cos everything was sooooooooooo perfect under labour wasnt it..

This line of it(the riots) being caused by poverty is bollocks. If that was the case then Bombay would have riots every day.
