The Town by The Cross

I have a Blackberry. Should've updated a couple of years ago but it's not high priority in my life.

Now is the time for me to update....

I don't need all the hoops , wheels and chips. I just need : phone calls, texts, internet, maybe sat nav, camera and video.

What's a good dependable phone ...... not a MUST have like the ones that people live on. ??

I have an iPhone 6s n love it , I used to have a blackberry n changed to iPhone n doubt I'd ever go back to any other make of phone now! My mate has a Samsung n she says it's very good. x

As an infrequent user who only accesses the basic functions battery life is an important factor for me....

As for the aesthetics .... I prefer a plain design with straight edges, tight radius corners and a smooth screen.....

Basically just a flat symmetrical oblong....

I like my phone, it does all the things you want. As soon as I find it I will let you know what it is. I can vouch for its hardiness and lack of attractiveness to others as Mr N has the same model , left it on the car roof and drove away, three hours later he returned and someone had picked it up and left it for him to find.

Some of the 'lesser' Samsungs are very good and available on cheap but reasonable contract plans - I have an A3 which I've had for over two years now and still going strong.

If you want a decent camera then Sony's are pretty good too.

I had a blackberry years ago and loved it. Eventually changed to a Samsung and now wouldn't have anything else.

Actually looking to change mine now so will be hitting the phone shop today. Will probably stick with Samsung but will look at what's on offer.

Yep. A cheaper Samsung does the job very well

The ZTE Blade is £65 and can do everything you want got one for wife after her Samsung was stolen on holiday.

Recently upgraded at Tesco and got moto e3 on a 2 year contract at £7:50/month but because I down loaded TescoXtras app, you see an advert each time you "log on" which you just cancel, you save £3/month so my monthly bill is only £4:50/month! (250mins phone, 5000texts, 500mb data but because of Tesco loyalty uped to 950mb.

Excellent phone does everything I want and good battery.

IPhone SE is a nice handy size smart phone. Would do everything you want and a bit more once you fall in love with it. Everyone I know who has one, including me, loves it.

Just replaced my super-old Samsung S2.

Bought Samsung Galaxy C9 pro - the reason being longer battery life and faster memory 6GB RAM and much cheaper than S8.

Bulky though - 6"

The HTC range are good. Currently I've got a HTC One.

I don't buy new phones, or go in for contracts. I'm similar to you, in that I don't really use mine a lot, mainly texts, the odd call, and a bit of internet.

I got a good sim only deal with EE at 15 quid a month, started on unlimited texts, 320 mins and 5 gig of data, and every two months I can upgrade that deal for either an extra 30 free mins or half a gig of data for free.

I'd say one of the budget lines of Samsung A/J series or if you can find one in stock somewhere the s5 neo.

Few generations old but waterproof, user replaceable battery, decent camera, sd card slot and does everything you need

I tend to buy then outright and use a shorter term contract or payg. Unlocked is ideal as not stuck to one network. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago on cheaper good handsets.

ZTE, HTC, Motorola good.Consider refurbished with a warranty. calculate the total cost of ownership - rental plus phone, to truly compare value.
