Being robbed

This afternoon for the first time at the old age of 36 I was robbed in central London (luckily its work phone)

Now yes I was shaken and angry, and frustrated that I couldn't stop the little shit.

I was wondering if anyone else had been robbed in the street and how did you deal with it.

Sorry to hear that fella! Hope you're not too shook up and work can afford to replace it! Glad you're ok!

Nearest I got was an attempted pickpocket outside Rome central station, classic distraction technique, some came up to me from the front to distract me while their mate was round the back in my pocket. Nearly got my wallet but I caught them in time!

That's horrid. Best thing is to try and let it go, don't dwell on it.

Happened to me many years ago and I gave chase. Got to the end of the road and they turned on me with a knife. Luckily I was a faster runner! Ended up me tracking him at a distance until the police caught up. In retrospect it wasn't worth the risk.

That's worse I think. Happened to us and they didn't take anything, just ransacked the place.

They must have been dissapointed

Chears mate - not ideal before a swinging social but I just feel a bit useless, like why didn't I realise why didn't I stop him, why didn't I kick him of the bike, and make sure I kicked a few ribs as well

Work will have to replace it as I have a crime reference no. I just don't understand why people would do such a thing

Maybe I am a decent bloke with morals that wouldn't dare think of doing that

Rome is bad for that and so is Milan, but outside a police station and Liverpool Street station, is cheeky as fuck

Fuck em. Don't sweat it. Shit happens in life. Karma always comes back around.

Things and possessions don't mean anything. What's done is done. It's not worth worrying about so let it wash over you like water.

You have to judge each situation as it's comes. I've trained Muay Thai and Krav Maga for years and if you ever find yourself cornered and outnumbered just throw the shit. Kick them in the balls and run like fuck.

Things can be replaced. Take up a martial art if you want to increase your confidence. Otherwise just forget them and get on with the important things in life. X

Brighton - even Hove!

That's very stressy. It's unlikely to happen again though. Think of it as a experience.

I've had my house broken into while i was away with work

They didn't take anything but they had been in the attic and broke the hatch

Took the seat pads of my sofa and put them on the wrong way

Left mucky footprints in my kitchen

Had taken my cairn terrior smudge out of the house and tied her up with her lead around my son's trik

When i got home it was really frightening

The locks on the doors weren't broken, so I phoned my landlord and asked if someone had a key to the house

He was so apologetic and said he thought it must be his daughters ex boyfriend and locksmith out to change the locks immediately, but it really made me nervous being in the house after that

I'm a single mum with kids, and I won't apologise but I now keep a hammer under my side of the bed !

If your work has any smarts the phone will be remote wiped and killed by now.

Sadly, it isn't worth the risk of fighting it. Who wants knifing or acid in the face over a mobile?

Sure, have my work mobile... I don't care, I'll happily do the paperwork, so longet as I'm not in hospital...

I had my phone snatched from my hand in Bermondsey one Friday lunchtime.

I went to give chase. And ended up with a fractured orbital floor. So I now have a hole between my nasal passage and eye socket. Too dangerous to operate on.

So for my non insured phone, time off work with follow up appointments at the hospital, cost to us the tax payer for ambulance, treatment etc I am so glad the skanky little sh*t probably got a hundred quid for the phone.

There was a documentry on the Met Police a few weeks back about the phone snatching. Was a very interesting watch.

Most of all though OP I hope that you are ok. Horrid thing to happen.

I shall even lay off the football banter for a spell as an act of kindness.

'Fight or Flight' adrenal dump causes you to either freeze or become superman and leap tall buildings in a single bound.... there's loads more I can go into, I teach this stuff and how to deal with it. You have nothing to feel ashamed of or guilty of or inadequate about. It's a male ego response. Perfectly natural. You are unharmed, safe and whatever is lost can be replaced.

Well done for being able to walk away intact. You are no less an man!

Not robbed in street, but also had house burgled, whilst on holiday. Horrible feeling, knowing someone has violated you in this way, but just grateful we weren't there, so they were just 'things', and no one was hurt.

Yeah I filled in a police report and crime number and I remotely wipped the phone, as it is linked to personal phone, so it was a case of wipe next time it hits a wifi signal either via 3G or not - which it did

Like my folks said it was nothing of mine and work are insured for shit like this.

I just feel my personal space has been interfered Witt

Yep, it's not the loss of whatever is stolen, it's the fact the scum have the audacity to do it makes you feel so angry.

Had my car, bike and even identity stolen (started getting bills for things I knew nothing of). But the worst feeling of all is when I reported it to the police they actually shrugged their shoulders and said bad luck. Even when I traced the identity thief they just said it's a civil matter!

Lesson learnt. Crap happens, so just do your best to avoid it.

Thankfully not in the street,my car has been broken into on a couple of occasions. Once when my daughter was younger and she left her little hand bag in the back seat, which I didn't notice. They must have been rather disappointed in it's content!

I'm forever telling the kid's not to walk around with their phones stuck out of their back jeans pocket,it's a theft waiting to happen!

Unless I'm desperate to do something like get directions I don't get my phone out in London. I use my headphones running down the inside of my clothing to take calls. I have a lot of memories on my personal phone that I'm not always backing up so would hate to lose it.

Too much of this shit going on at the moment.

Be philosophical mate you are not hurt and it was an oppurtunist nicking a work phone. With all these acid attacks going on it could have been a whole lot worse.

I refused to hand my wallet to some teenage mugger and got stabbed for it! Luckily I side stepped and he got my arm rather than my stomach. Best just hand your stuff over and let police and insurance deal with it.

Being a fellow victim of a crime, I've never found a way to really deal with it, just remember it less. I too keep chastising myself, why didn't I do things different on the spot but you can't help your natural reaction in situations like that. Big hugs xx

Luckily, I lived in London for 18 years and only had someone try to rob me once.

It was when I was at school though and it was a gang of girls who tried to take my mobile.

I'm not proud of it but I had a bit of a blind rage moment and next thing I knew, I had the girl who took it pinned against the wall by her neck.

Anything could've happened and I do think it's often better to just hand things over instead of getting hurt.

I was lucky in the fact that her friends didn't intervene and they told her to just give it back to me, but it wouldn't have been worth getting beaten up or stabbed over had things gone differently.

If it's an iPhone it can be traced. For anyone who has a phone, tablet, laptop you can download "prey" it will track your device.

I really hope your ok.It is good to talk about it, helps with the shock and trauma of it.
